ATTACHMENT A 6.1 STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY 1 of 9 Spring operations got underway as crews continued to maintain high standards across all park sites, schools and recreational areas. Daily maintenance included blowing play areas, walkways, tennis and basketball courts as well as BBQ areas, synthetic fields, pathways and dugouts. Picking up litter, emptying trash receptacles and changing can liners were also included in daily maintenance. Restrooms were stocked weekly to ensure availability. In exciting news, the water play features at Hap Magee Ranch Park and Sycamore Valley Park were turned on for the season April 1! Sports field maintenance was a major focus for the month. At Diablo Vista Park and Sycamore Valley Park, sports fields were aerated, slit seeded and fertilized. Irrigation systems were also checked and repaired. Bark in playground fall zones was raked twice weekly at Diablo Vista Park. At Green Valley, Montair and Vista Grande Elementary School fields, potholes were filled with topsoil and seed and fields were aerated and slit seeded. Park beautification included tree trimming, landscape maintenance and site improvements across multiple locations. Trees were pruned at Osage Station Park, John Baldwin Elementary School, Greenbrook Elementary School and Danville South Park. Golden nuggets were added at Osage Station Park and Danville South Park while shrubs and climbing roses were trimmed and play areas were cleared of debris. Additional work included picnic table repairs and railing painting at Osage Station Park, backflow cage cleaning and dugout clearing at John Baldwin Elementary School and general debris removal at Greenbrook Elementary School. The Town Green received fresh mulch around all shrubs and a new volleyball net was installed at Oak Hill Park. Safety remained a primary focus. Bi-weekly playground safety inspections were conducted at all Town-maintained playgrounds. Surface improvements, including pothole repairs, topsoil applications and decomposed granite at Hap Magee Ranch Park, were completed to reduce tripping hazards. Additional maintenance included securing bridge nails and removing debris at Oak Hill Park, repairing and cleaning drinking fountains at multiple parks, sanding benches at Hap Magee Ranch Park, clearing dumpsters and graffiti, removing straw wattles at Osage Station Park and reattaching the pickleball divider net. PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES 2 of 9 Irrigation management and water conservation efforts continued as part of seasonal spring operations. Systems were activated and adjusted across multiple sites, including the Town Green, to support efficient water use. Irrigation inspections were completed at Green Valley, Montair, Vista Grande and Greenbrook Elementary Schools as well as Hap Magee Ranch Park. Infrastructure repairs supported system reliability. Mainline repairs were completed at Hap Magee Ranch Park and Oak Hill Park, new valves were installed at the All Wars Memorial and a weeping valve at Osage Station Park was repaired. Irrigation checks and field repairs were performed at Diablo Vista Park and Sycamore Valley Park. Additionally, topsoil and seed applications were completed system-wide to stabilize soil and support turf recovery. Over 400 kids enjoyed the annual spring event, Eggstravaganza! With egg hunts occurring every 30 minutes, age groups ranging from tots to teens had a chance to find 4,000 hidden eggs. Participants dashed to fun music and found treasure on the Town Green. Inside the Danville Community Center, participants enjoyed spring themed crafts and a carrot themed smaller room which had facepainting, temporary tattoos and “bunny snacks.” 3 of 9 Ten participants were enrolled in Kids Day Out on April 3 as well as 21 participants in the Town’s sold out Camp Danville: Spring Break April 6-10. Kids enjoyed spring themed games, crafts and playtime on the playground at Hap Magee Ranch Park. The Teen Centers had a special visit from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District this month to learn more about their fire engine and all the tools they use. The teens and Teen Center staff were surprised by all the storage compartments that keep the hoses, bolt cutters, suits and more. The teens were also able to see one of the fire hydrants in use and learned about what valves are used to pump out water. Danville Youth Council (DYC) applications opened on April 3 and 114 students ranging from 6th to 12th grade submitted their applications before the closing date on April 17. 4 of 9 SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS April was a busy month for facility rentals! There were 18 indoor reservations, 40 picnic rentals as well as 23 bocce and tennis rentals. On April 23, 17 seniors attended a special trip to the Exploratorium’s After Dark series, where they participated in scheduled talks and activities centered on the theme, Climate Journeys. The program invited attendees to engage with artists, designers and advocates to explore meaningful ways to respond to climate change. In addition to the educational sessions, participants enjoyed a bite to eat at their restaurant, walking through interactive exhibits and visiting the observatory, making the experience both enriching and enjoyable. Spring continues to be a successful season for Adult Sports Leagues! There are a total of six 5 on 5 basketball teams playing Tuesday nights as well as 20 softball teams playing Monday and Thursday evenings. Additionally, a total of 70 bocce teams play Monday-Thursday evenings. 5 of 9 On Saturday, April 25, the Lend a Hand Day volunteer event was a meaningful success, bringing the community together to support seniors in need. Over the course of the day, staff and 100 volunteers worked hard to provide yardwork assistance for 16 homes, completing tasks such as raking leaves, pulling weeds, spreading mulch and handling general yard maintenance. Participants ages 16 and older contributed independently, while younger volunteers, ages 12 and up, joined alongside supervising adults. With options for either a partial shift from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM or a full shift until 1:00 PM, volunteers showed flexibility and dedication. The Danville Senior Center Buzz Sessions have been successful this month. On April 7, 48 participants learned about Finding the Right Shoes for Your Feet presented by the owner of Forward Motion Sports, a local business in Danville. This Buzz Session was a comprehensive demonstration on how important the right shoes can be for your physical and mental well- being. On April 14, 99 attendees enjoyed the Buzz Session titled Everyday AI for Seniors Introduction Workshop. Seniors were given a basic introduction to key terminology and concepts related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). On April 21, 60 participants enjoyed a library presentation on The Power of Free with Your Library Card. This informative presentation shared lots of free library information and perks with Contra Costa County. 6 of 9 INCREASE CULTURAL UNITY The Town hosted the Opening Reception for the newest Art Gallery exhibition, Aligned Again, on April 18. Members of the community enjoyed appetizers and meeting the artists while viewing the pieces. This exhibition features six women artists whose distinct voices converge in a vivid array of abstract expressions and will be open through June 19. On April 23, the Paint to Relax Workshop inspired by the Aligned Again exhibition was a big success. All levels were welcomed to explore a mindfulness and relaxing hour of creativity. On April 4, the Village Theatre hosted a tribute to the classic 80’s band Journey with Journey Revisited. A total of 226 people attended the concert to listen to their favorite Journey tunes. 7 of 9 On April 28 at Prospect Park Plaza, the Town celebrated Superhero Day, which featured Auggie the Acorn as a superhero. The community enjoyed crafts and a photo opportunity with Auggie the superhero. The Village Theatre hosted several rentals this month with two stand-up comedy shows, which were performed in Hindi. There was also a dance recital, a preschool recital, a film festival featuring students from Charlotte Wood Middle School and a concert. At the end of the month, I Can Do That began tech rehearsals for Seussical, which opens the first weekend of May. The Town celebrated Earth Day on April 14 at Prospect Park Plaza. Folks exploring downtown stopped by to spin the prize wheel and pick up swag from Recycle Smart and Republic Services. Children also got to make a suncatcher craft. FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT 8 of 9 The Danville Senior Center held its first Black and White Senior Ball on April 14, bringing 31 people together for a fun and memorable afternoon. Attendees enjoyed dressing up and dancing to a lively mix of music. Attendees took photos in the photo booth, capturing special moments with both old and new friends while bringing home printed keepsakes. Highlights of the event included a special dance presentation, the announcement of the Senior Ball King and Queen, along with Best Dressed awards that added excitement and friendly competition. Raffle prizes were also a crowd favorite, giving participants something extra to look forward to. This new event was an enjoyable experience and a great first step toward creating a new tradition. On April 29, Arts and Rec on the Go set up shop at the Diablo Vista Park, bringing a stingray craft, a superhero craft and corn hole, for those spending their afternoon at the park. Approximately 35 kids participated in the craft and game.
