Hiram and Matilda Elliott had this craftsman house built in 1909 and moved
here that Thanksgiving with four -month-old son, Duane. Matilda was John
Hartz's daughter. Hiram owned "Elliott's Since 1907". The house set on a large
Lot with an orchard. In 1917 Hiram built a garage at the corner of Diablo and
Hartz that backed up to this house. He rented and then sold it to Oscar
Olsson. The first Danville fire truck was garaged there. Asa boy Duane
shinnied over the fence to sit in it and picture himself speeding around town.
Later he would polish the truck until it gleamed. He grew up to be a fireman
and eventually was elected fire chief. After a stroke in 1933 Hiram died in
1943. He lived here for 34 years, and Matilda for 59 years. He was a true
Danville pioneer and a very successful businessman.
