STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE

Winter operations continued in full swing as crews maintained the high standards expected across all
park sites and school locations. Daily maintenance activities were consistently completed and
included blowing play areas, walkways, courts, synthetic fields and pathways as well as emptying
trash receptacles, changing can liners and removing litter.
Sports fields, playgrounds and recreational areas continued to receive focused attention. At Osage
Station Park, golden nuggets were added within the park and the divider net between pickleball
courts was reattached. At Oak Hill Park, two yards of golden nuggets were added to the All Wars
Memorial area and decomposed granite in the picnic area was cleaned and refreshed.
Park beautification efforts included extensive tree, shrub and landscape maintenance across the
system. Crews pruned Crape Myrtle trees at Osage Station Park, Oak Hill Park, Greenbrook
Elementary School, John Baldwin Elementary School, Hap Magee Ranch Park, Diablo Vista Park
and Sycamore Valley Park. Thirty-five trees along the pathway at Osage Station Park were trimmed
and sixteen trees in the parking lot at Diablo Vista Park were pruned as well as the removal of one
dead tree. Climbing roses and shrubs were trimmed at Danville South Park to maintain pathway
clearance and park aesthetics. Benches were sanded and stained at Osage Station Park and broken
railings were painted to restore appearance and functionality.
Facility repairs and minor improvements addressed equipment and infrastructure needs
throughout the month. Broken drinking fountains were repaired at Danville South Park and Oak
Hill Park, and clogged drinking fountain drains were cleared. Graffiti was removed from the men’s
restroom at Oak Hill Park and a broken bench board along the pathway was repaired. Dumpsters
were cleaned out at Osage Station Park and Oak Hill Park. Fishing line was also removed
throughout Oak Hill Park. At Hap Magee Ranch Park, boxwood shrubs near the men’s restrooms
were hand-watered to support plant health during the dry winter period.
PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES
STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY

Safety remained a primary focus. Bi-weekly
playground safety inspections were conducted at all
Town-maintained playgrounds. Monthly inspections
were completed at John Baldwin Elementary School
and Greenbrook Elementary School to ensure
equipment and grounds remained in safe condition.
Surface improvements, including topsoil
applications, pothole repairs and the addition of
decomposed granite and golden nuggets at multiple
sites, were carried out in part to address potential
trip hazards and maintain safe access across park
pathways and recreational areas.
Irrigation system management and water conservation efforts continued as part of seasonal
winter operations. The irrigation controller at the Town Green was turned on as needed to
support newly seeded areas, while systems at other sites remained adjusted to minimize
unnecessary water use during the cooler months.
Infrastructure repairs were completed to maintain system reliability. A mainline repair was
completed at Green Valley Elementary School, two irrigation breaks were repaired at Sycamore
Valley Park and a weeping valve was fixed at Osage Station Park. Valve boxes at Sycamore
Valley Park were raised as part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement effort. Irrigation
heads at Sycamore Valley Park were marked in coordination with the Little League Field No. 5
home run fence installation. Sod, seed, mulch and soil amendments were applied throughout the
system to stabilize soil, support turf recovery and reduce erosion following seasonal rainfall.
These coordinated efforts supported park safety, environmental stewardship and the continued
enhancement of community spaces across the Town of Danville.
