Dear Mayor Arnerich and Members of the Town Council:
I am writing to respectfully express my support for the Town continuing to explore regulated
cannabis retail in our community.
The recent changes under AB 8 and related state regulations did not occur because of safety
failures. Rather, the State chose to move hemp-derived cannabinoid products into the more
tightly regulated cannabis retail framework to create a more controlled and standardized
environment. In other words, the regulatory shift was intended to increase oversight and
safety – not to eliminate responsible local businesses.
For nearly five years, America’s Finest Hemp Co. operated responsibly in downtown Danville,
serving adults and contributing positively to our local economy. America’s Finest Hemp Co. is
one of my favorite shops in Danville. I have been a customer since its opening and I know
many people who shopped in this store. I believe that the non-issuance of a dispensary
license would be a very short-sighted decision by the Town of Danville. The Town has always
supported local businesses going back to the days my father had stores here for thirty years
beginning in 1958.
As a long-time resident of this Town (my family and I have lived here since 1951) and loyal
customer to America’s Finest Hemp Co., I urge the Town to strongly consider a regulated
cannabis retail framework so that responsible local businesses like America’s Finest Hemp Co.
have a path forward under the new state laws.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued service to our community.
Sincerely,
Marilyn (May) Gardner
