Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I am writing today in support of Jeff Sutherland’s proposed cannabis store to replace his Hemp store. For the government to okay his hemp store, then after he followed all applicable laws (including signing a lease for his storefront) for the government to turn around and change the rules seems like a broken promise. I have known Jeff for many years and can attest to his honesty and integrity, and I know that he will follow all state and local laws. Like his Hemp store, I know that his proposed venture will not detract from our downtown charm. Voters have clearly indicated that cannabis should be legal, taxed and regulated. Many Danville citizens enjoy this legal product responsibly today, and must go to neighboring cities to spend money there. We currently have numerous establishments that sell alcohol, and one that even produces beer, so to say no to cannabis is hypocritical. 1 To disallow the sale of cannabis in Danville ignores the will of the voters, and says no to a legal business who would pay taxes to our city. (It also seems like an archaic attitude, out of touch with 2025- more befitting octogenarians!) I look forward to Jeff’s new store, and I’m confident that our city government will support the will of the voters and see the common sense of allowing entrepreneurs like Jeff to do business in Danville. Sincerely, Roger Lind 572 Morninghome Road PS- I vote every year!! 2
