Town Leaders:
Re: Changes in California law for hemp/cannabis retail facilities
As a 27-year Danville resident, I am always sad to see a business negatively impacted by government
legislation; and feel for the owners of America’s Finest Hemp Company (AFHC). With that said, I
VEHEMENTLY OPPOSE any change in position on the part of Danville to allow cannabis products
to be sold through retail store fronts in our community.
When AFHC opened their shop on Hartz Avenue, I went in to check it out and found the owner to be
knowledgeable, likable and the shop itself to be very nice. However, I always felt that it was a
slippery slope to allow a “cannabis-related” business into our community let alone into the heart of
our downtown.
The fact that the Town is even considering changing our zoning or guidelines to accommodate this
change in law illustrates that my concern about the “slippery slope” factor was well warranted.
“….First we let in a hemp business because after all… it’s not pot; it’s just hemp products. Then…
The Hemp Company and its Owners that we have all come to know and love is under attack because
the law has changed. So now we change our zoning to accommodate one of our friendly local
businesses, and then voilà! The door is now open for undesirable weed shops to open in our
community.”
Any changes in zoning or the types of businesses that we approve to coexist in our community
should always meet the litmus test, “Does this business positively contribute to our family-friendly
community?” Without reservation I can say that cannabis-related businesses do not, and will never,
meet that litmus test.
NO ON CANNABIS-RELATED BUSINESSES IN OUR COMMUNITY!!
Thank you for your consideration,
