Danville parks continue to serve as the heart of the community engagement and recreation this spring.
Across Danville, the dedicated team has been hard at work ensuring all park facilities are in optimal
condition for visitors. At Osage Station Park, enhancements were made around the playground area
with fresh golden nuggets and 50 shrubs were carefully trimmed to maintain the park's inviting
atmosphere. Oak Hill Park received special attention with newly stained benches in the gazebo area and
30 vibrant plants were planted that will add color and charm to this popular gathering spot. The
basketball court at Danville South Park is sporting freshly painted backboards, providing an improved
experience for sports enthusiasts of all ages.
Daily maintenance routines at Diablo Vista Park and
Sycamore Valley Park ensure walkways, play areas and
sports facilities remain clean and welcoming for all
activities. Important seasonal preparations were
completed, including aerating sports fields to ensure
they're ready for increased spring and summer use. These
efforts reflect the ongoing commitment to creating spaces
where community connections flourish and memories are
made.
Safety continues to be the highest
priority across all park facilities.
Rigorous bi-weekly playground
inspections at Osage Station
Park, Oak Hill Park, Danville
South Park, Montair Elementary
School and other locations help
identify and address potential
concerns before they become
problems. When the team
discovers any park issues
requiring immediate attention,
such as loose bench boards at
Greenbrook School Elementary
School, swift action is taken to
ensure visitors’ safety.
At Hap Magee Ranch Park,
thorough safety inspections were
conducted and several facility
improvements were made,
including repairing a roof leak at
the Swain House and addressing
rodent activity at the Magee House.
Essential plumbing fixtures in the
Cottage were replaced to maintain
proper sanitation. Regular
maintenance of drinking fountains
throughout the parks, including
deep cleaning those in the dog
parks, ensures these essential
amenities are ready for increased
use during warmer weather.
PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES
PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES

Environmental stewardship remains central to the park management approach. Irrigation specialists
have been busy identifying and repairing several mainline breaks and replacing valves and irrigation
boxes at Sycamore Valley Park, ensuring efficient water usage as the drier months approach. At Hap
Magee Ranch Park, careful testing and reprogramming of water features balances visitor enjoyment
with responsible water management.
Tree care continues to be a focus, with selective pruning of redwoods at Danville South Park, willows
at Oak Hill Park and crape myrtles at Hap Magee Ranch Park. These efforts not only enhance the
natural beauty of our Town parks but also promote healthy growth and sustainable landscapes.
Erosion prevention was addressed by adding top-soil and seed to sports fields at Osage Station Park
and the All Wars Memorial lawn at Oak Hill Park.
These maintenance activities reflect the ongoing commitment to providing well-maintained, safe and
environmentally sustainable recreational spaces for the visitors and community of Danville.
The Town of Danville hosted its
annual Spring Break Camp at Hap
Magee Ranch Park. These five days
consisted of 17 campers and four staff
members playing games on the grass,
going on nature walks and enjoying
the water feature at the playground.
To begin the spring season,
participants also had the chance to
create their own paper plate ladybugs,
snail rocks and daffodils.

On April 19, the Town of Danville hosted its annual Eggstravaganza celebration. This special event
included two sessions with a total of almost 400 participants combined! There was a wide range of
crafts offered at the event that were both spring and Easter related, providing participants
opportunities to create their own butterfly magnets, character suncatchers, Easter baskets and egg
wreaths. Additionally, the Spring Bunny and the Spring Chick were present, and each participant
received eight eggs during the Easter Egg hunt on the Town Green!
On Wednesday April 2, students at the Charlotte Wood Teen Center spent their afternoon
stenciling and painting tiles for the Town’s community tiles project at Oak Hill Park. Students were
able to get creative by utilizing multiple stencils, colors and shading techniques for their tiles. They
are all looking forward to seeing their creations on display at Oak Hill Park after the tiles go
through the glazing and firing process.

PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS
Trail Mixers resumed this month with a hike at Las Trampas Regional Wilderness, where 16
participants completed the Lower Loop trail. The group enjoyed a scenic and moderately challenging
route, with clear skies and fresh spring greenery adding to the experience. It was a great Saturday with
a mix of returning hikers and newcomers joining in. Trail mixers are offered for outdoor enthusiasts of
all levels to explore local trails and regional parks each month. The program offers a great opportunity
to stay active, enjoy nature and build connections within the community.
Spring programs are in full swing! The Bocce league has 62 teams registered and Softball league has
14 teams registered. Both leagues are thriving with high participation and great energy from all
teams. Girls Flag Football is also well underway, providing a positive and empowering environment
for young girls to develop their skills and build confidence in the sport.
Danville Aquatics is proud to offer its second Lifeguard Training Course this season, helping certify a
new group of 10 motivated individuals—many of whom will be joining Town staff this summer. It’s
shaping up to be a great season across the board!

INCREASE CULTURAL UNITY
The new Village Theatre Art Gallery exhibition featuring abstract paintings, Breaking Rules, opened
Saturday, April 12 with a reception from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Members of the community had a chance to
visit with the artists and learn about their artwork. This exhibition showcases five artists who dig deeply
through layers of paint application and collage to arrive at new solutions. Breaking Rules will be open
until June 13.
The Village Theatre and Art Gallery hosted quite a few rentals this month. One of the rentals was
Interview held by Michael Connely and was produced by The Eugene O’Neill Foundation. Rentals also
included a concert, a couple of dance recitals, a comedy show, a meeting and a children’s theatre
production by Diamond Academy of Performing Arts.
On April 14, the theatre hosted a birthday party as part of a prize won at the Town’s annual Recreation
Expo & Open House. The prize featured a free rental of the theatre to screen a movie of their choice.
The parents decided to use it for a birthday party for their daughters, who were cousins born three days
apart. They watched the movie “Trolls” and enjoyed, candy, popcorn, pizza and cupcakes.

FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
The Lend a Hand Day event took place Saturday, April 26 and engaged over 100 volunteers who
assisted local seniors with yardwork at 19 Incorporated Danville homes. Local sponsors generously
supported the event by providing necessary materials and resources. In preparation, staff gathered
supplies and coordinated logistics to ensure everything ran smoothly. This event provided a great
opportunity for the community to come together, assisting seniors in maintaining their yards and
strengthening neighborhood connections.
In April, the Buzz Sessions at the Danville Senior Center continued to attract strong community
interest with a range of engaging and informative programs. The session titled “Power of the Free
with Your Library Card” was especially popular, with 42 participants registered and a packed room.
Attendees learned about various library services, explored the library’s website and received
guidance on accessing digital resources. In addition, this months offerings included “Volunteer
Opportunities Around Town,” discovering ways to serve their community and connect with local
vendors. Janet Finsilver’s mystery author buzz session titled, ”Where do Ideas Come From for
Mystery Stories?” shared insights on the creative process behind mystery writing, particularly
exploring where story ideas originate. Informational sessions for Executor and Trustee Selections
and a visit from the Contra Costa Mosquito & Vector Control District were also very popular.

PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER
Senior Bocce remains a favorite community pastime, with 96 participants registered for the spring
season. Games take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Sycamore Valley Park
bocce courts, offering a relaxed and friendly environment. The program encourages social
connection, with many participants returning each season to catch up with friends and meet new
people. Teams are not required to join, making it easy for newcomers to jump in and enjoy the fun
and camaraderie.
