ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF REPORT 6.6
TO: Mayor and Town Council March 18, 2025
SUBJECT: Resolution No. 17-2025, accepting CalRecycle Beverage Container
Recycling City/County Payment Program funds and appropriating
$22,185 to support activities throughout the Town
BACKGROUND
The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) makes
$10.5 million available annually through the Beverage Container Recycling City/County
Payment Program for cities and counties to implement beverage container recycling and
litter abatement projects. The goal of the program is to reach and maintain an 80 percent
recycling rate for all California refund value beverage containers.
Funding is available to eligible cities and counties on a per capita basis. Danville has
applied for and received approximately $11,000 in grant monies annually since 2010. In
Danville, these grants have been used to fund recycling and trash receptacles in the
downtown area and the installation or repair of water refill stations within public parks
and buildings.
DISCUSSION
The Town applied for and was awarded $11,125 for the FY 22/23 funding cycle, and
$11,060 in the FY 23/24 funding cycle, for a total of $22,185. The Maintenance Services
Department will utilize grant funds for the purchase of water refill stations in our parks
and/or community buildings with these grant funds.
CalRecycle requires recipients to expend Program funds within approximately two years.
Recipients are also required to submit an expenditure report with supporting
documentation for funds expended.
