HomeMy WebLinkAbout021825-05.1DAN'VILLE CALIFORNIA PROCLAMATION IN RECOGNITION OF CELEBRATIONS OF THE LUNAR NEW YEAR WHEREAS, most of the traditions associated with the Lunar New Year, also known as Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, is typically celebrated in parts of Asia - notably China, South Korea and Vietnam - but it is also celebrated by diaspora communities around the world such as in Europe and the US, involves a clean slate and new beginnings. Gifts are exchanged during the Lunar New Year, and the tradition is to gift a red packet or envelope filled with money. Red symbolizes good luck throughout the New Year, and WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is a time of joy and renewal, and a time to illustrate the rich cultural history and diversity of Asian heritage, and WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year marks the transition between zodiac signs: 2025 is the year of the Snake; 2024 the year of the Dragon. The Lunar New Year on Januanj 29, 2025, brings the Year of the Snake, sixth in the 12 - animal Chinese zodiac cycle. The Snake symbolizes wisdom and transformation and offers opportunities for change and personal growth. People who are born in Snake years are known for their keen intuition, even - temperament and are naturally strategic, skilled communicators and excellent problem -solvers, and WHEREAS, the annual Lunar New Year Celebration not only provides an educational opportunity for the community to express the vibrancy of Asian traditions, but also opens up an opportunity for the community to embrace the cultural significance of the Lunar New Year, and WHEREAS, during the Lunar New Year more than one billion people will feast 117ith relatives, watch parades and pray for good fortune in the year ahead, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby wish the Danville community every success in welcoming the Year of the Snake, and we wish good health and good fortune to all on the Lunar New Year.
