Parks and Recreation make lives and communities better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering place. STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY 1 of 5 ATTACHMENT A Four picnic benches were revitalized with fresh staining at Osage Station Park. Additionally, four benches were refreshed in the lower picnic area at Oak Hill Park while nine benches at the large dog park at Hap Magee Ranch park were refinished. Graffiti was removed at Osage Station, Oak Hill and Diablo Vista Park restrooms. At Diablo Vista and Sycamore Valley Parks, cleanliness included maintenance of walkways, play areas, BBQ spaces and sports courts. Landscaping efforts included tree maintenance with work done on eight willow trees along Oak Hill Park’s pathway and trimming of crape myrtles at Baldwin and Greenbrook Elementary Schools. Daily litter removal and regular can liner changes across all Town-maintained parks ensured the spaces remained pristine for visitors to enjoy. At the Magee house, rodent control measures were implemented and the branding room doors in the backyard were adjusted to ensure proper security and locking mechanisms. The Cottage area received attention with repairs to a broken fence post in the front. The Town’s commitment to community safety remained strong with bi-weekly playground inspections at Osage Station, Oak Hill and Danville South Parks along with Montair Elementary School. Additional repairs were completed, including the stair railing in the Diablo Vista Park play area, a basketball net replacement and leaking toilet repair at Sycamore Valley Park. At Osage Station Park, new locks were installed in the men's bathroom while Danville South Park received a replacement bench. At Baldwin Elementary School, safety was enhanced by securing picnic table bolts and replacing a chain on the sports field gate. Infrastructure improvements at Hap Magee Ranch Park included replacing a gate post in the small dog park and repairing a leak in the dog park drinking fountain. Regular maintenance of restroom supplies, cleanup of broken glass, maintenance of pump houses, dumpsters and bathroom facilities inspection ensured our parks remained safe and welcoming. PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES This month saw significant progress in environmental stewardship across the parks as the Town prepared for the winter season and field moratorium. Irrigation improvements were completed, including mainline repairs at Sycamore Valley Park's field #6, play area and lower turf as well as maintenance at Osage Station and Oak Hill Parks along with raising multiple valve boxes to optimize water management. Topsoil and seeding was added where needed at Osage Station Park. Decomposed granite was added at Oak Hill Park’s lower picnic area and golden nuggets were spread near the Osage Station Park playground. Seasonal irrigation adjustments were implemented with systems being turned off at Vista Grande, Montair, and Green Valley Elementary Schools. PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES 2 of 5 At Hap Magee Ranch Park, several significant drainage projects were completed: an additional drain line was installed for the water play feature, a new drainage system was also installed to prevent flooding on the pathway near the Cottage and a drainage swale was enhanced along the dog park. The Junior Warriors basketball program successfully kicked off its season with the first slate of games, welcoming nearly 400 children to the courts. Games were held at two locations, Los Cerros Middle School and Diablo Vista Middle School, creating an exciting and energetic atmosphere across both sites. This season marks a vibrant start to what promises to be an engaging and memorable experience for all involved. Families, players and coaches came together bringing a strong sense of community and enthusiasm to the program. The players were eager to showcase their skills, while the coaches and volunteers ensured the games ran smoothly, fostering an environment of sportsmanship and teamwork. Kids Day Out took place on January 2, 3 and 6. These fun-filled three days at Oak Hill Park had 24 participants across its duration and individual daily winter related themes! The crafts included snowman tubes, handprinted wreaths, elf hats and DIY icicles. The activities that took place included a gift wrap relay, snow shovel race and holiday musical chairs! The Danville Senior Center hosted a family trip to the Golden State Warriors vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game on Wednesday, January 29. A great time was had by all at this sold-out trip and the Warriors pulled off a win! 4 of 5 PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS INCREASE CULTURAL UNITY On January 11, local Aja Vu performed at the Village Theatre. The concert started at 7:30 PM where 207 concert goers enjoyed the music of both Chicago and Steely Dan. Attendees even got up to dance in front of the stage! The Village Theatre also hosted several rentals this month including the musical, “The Addams Family,” by local company “I Can Do That Theater.” The Village Theatre Art Gallery hosted the Opening Reception for the new exhibition, Innovate to Elevate, on Thursday, January 30. This exhibition, open through March 28, showcases student artwork from the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. Come see the talent of these young and aspiring artists! 5 of 5 FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS The Danville Senior Center’s free tech support workshops are becoming increasingly popular due to the community's growing tech needs. This volunteer lead program is one of the many volunteer opportunities provided by the Danville Senior Center to support the community. The hands-on, personalized support provided by a volunteer has proven to be invaluable for adults and seniors seeking help with their Apple-based systems and Android mobile devices and laptops. Adults and Seniors are able to get quick assistance with minor issues, while also allowing more comprehensive help for those needing detailed guidance. Word has spread through the community, increasing attendance and creating a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable asking questions and learning more about their devices.
