Existing Technology
•Industry standard in traffic operations has been the use of
Inductive Loops for VEH and BIKE detection.
•Inductive loops have been a reliable traffic detection
technology used nation wide.
•How they work?
•Inductive loops create a magnetic field on the
ground which gets triggered by a metallic object
passing through or sitting on top loop
configuration.
•Typically, Inductive loops are installed in Class
II, IIB bicycle facilities near the stop bar of a
signalize intersection.
•Inductive loops used for bike detection are sometime
not accurate due to Bicycle Frame material.
