HomeMy WebLinkAboutAge-Friendly Roadmap Accomplishments 2024 Attach AAge-Friendly Roadmap Accomplishments Updated 10/21/2024 ATTACHMENT A The Danville Age-Friendly Roadmap– Charts a course of action to promote health equity across the lifespan and enable residents of all ages to stay connected and engaged in their communities. Domains of Livability – The five Domains of Livability were derived during the community- driven process. These Domains include: • Transportation • Housing • Social Connections & Community Support • Outdoor & Indoor Facilities • Activities & Programs A Call to Action - The Age-Friendly Roadmap provides tools for the Town of Danville, the Senior Advisory Commission, and the community to improve the quality of life for residents of all ages. Strategic Directions—The following are accomplishments related to the Roadmap, specifically through the five Domains of Livability. Transportation: Provide accessible, safe, convenient, and affordable travel options – including public transit, rideshare, walking, and biking – to get people of all ages where they need to go. • A Bicycle Advisory Commission has been established. • A Town-wide Bicycle Master Plan was adopted on July 6, 2021. • Staff conducted an informational interview with Mobility Matters staff to learn more about volunteer-led driving programs. • Staff met with Transportation Manager and City Attorney to discuss general opportunities in the program area and Trails Master Plan, ADA Transition Plan • County Connections Mobile Lobby Program: County Connections staff have an information table at the Senior Center for walk-up questions (February 22, 2022 & June 28, 2022). • Transportation Services Questionnaire • Refer people seeking transportation support to Mobility Matters and the Information & Assistance line through the Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department. Age-Friendly Roadmap Accomplishments Updated 10/21/2024 ATTACHMENT A • Transit Services Survey collected relevant Program information on the following Transit vectors: Mobility Matters, CC County Connection, Link Par-Transit, Pleasant Hill Sr. Van Service, Lamorinda Spirit Van & Rides, Orinda Association, San Ramon, Go Go Concord, Pleasanton, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region (update FY 22-23). • Include transportation programming in the Buzz session and printed transportation materials at the senior center. Housing: Ensure that older people can age in place—stay in their homes and communities for as long as possible—and have a diverse range of housing options that are accessible, safe, convenient, and affordable. • Town ADU program (Garden Cottage Program) • The 20th Annual Lend-a-Hand Day took place on April 2024 and provided Senior Yardwork Assistance to local senior residents. Ninety-seven volunteers of all ages assisted their senior neighbors by weeding, spreading mulch, planting, and cleaning gutters. • Staff provide referrals to the Information & Assistance line through Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department for those seeking housing support. • Buzz Session: I Need to Downsize: Now What? Demystifying Senior Living Options, The Right Home for Aging in Place, Top Tax Planning Opportunities in 2023, Do you Want to Stay in Your Home? How to Downsize when Going Through a Transition • Commissioners provided input by participating in the Housing Element process. • LLAD Exemption Social Connections & Community Support: Create opportunities for intergenerational and multicultural interaction that promote health and wellness and connect people of all ages to various resources and services available in Danville. • Staff continue to track inquiries and provide information and referrals to residents seeking social connections or support utilizing the County Senior Resource Guide, Way to Go Contra Costa!, and the Information & Assistance line through Contra Costa County. • The Danville Senior Center hosted the Book Club and the Senior Friday Bridge group. • HICAP Counseling holds free monthly appointments in the Danville Senior Center. • The senior lunch program has served over 7,000 Lunches to the Danville community since FY 2021 and counties 50-65 Meals per week. Age-Friendly Roadmap Accomplishments Updated 10/21/2024 ATTACHMENT A • The creation of a Resources Table in the Senior Center hallway to provide more in- depth information on social services. • Updating the Town website to include all the resources outlined in the Hub for Resources. • The Senior Advisory Commission participated in a joint meeting with the Parks, Recreation & Arts Commission, and Arts Advisory Board regarding the Downtown Master Plan process. • Senior Commissioners attended 25 events or programs throughout the year, including Coffee with the Commissioners on February 8, 2022. • The Seniors Commission continues to engage with the community through Morning mingles and Volunteering opportunities, such as hosting Senior Sneaker Trips, Volunteer instruction, Food Serving, Breakfast with Friends, Senior variety shows, and involvement in other adult/senior program areas. Outdoor & Indoor Facilities: Provide people of all ages and abilities with indoor and outdoor places to gather, exercise, socialize, and access services to support active and healthy lifestyles. • Celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Danville Senior Center on April 28, 2022, with an open house-style celebration. Approximately 108 attendees enjoyed appetizers, conversation, a slide show, and door prizes. Auggie the Acorn was also in attendance! • Senior programs continue at the Danville Community Center, the Danville Senior Center, Village Theatre, the Mt. Diablo Room of the Danville Library, and outdoor spaces such as the Bocce Courts and softball Fields at Sycamore Valley Park. • The Breakfast with Friends program has resumed. It provides seniors with a social opportunity to gather at a local restaurant, supporting local businesses and fostering social interaction. • The Danville Senior Center has been showcased in our Annual Recreation Expo. • Instilation of a Senior center sign/Arrow on Prospect & Front Street • Acquisition of additional furnishings for the VMB Art room to Lounge conversion Activities & Programs: We offer a wide variety of learning, fitness, social, multicultural, and intergenerational activities for people of all ages, abilities, and incomes to enjoy. • Program registration has grown from 3228 participants in FY21-22 to 6188 participants in FY23-24. The 23/24 FY also hosted 405 pre-registered programs. Age-Friendly Roadmap Accomplishments Updated 10/21/2024 ATTACHMENT A • The 23/24 FY offers 37 Buzz Sessions, a Free weekly lecture series on a wide range of topics provided in person. • Senior sports leagues, including Senior Softball and Senior Bocce, have resumed to normal or higher than pre-COVID numbers. • The Town of Danville offered 34 Adult and Senior special events (plus 12 Tea Dances) • Free weekly movies have resumed at the Danville Senior Center with a current title each week, including foreign films and award-winning movies. • The 6th Annual Senior Variety Show took place in September 2024. It featured family- friendly performances by performers 50 and older for an audience of all ages. • The town has seen an increase in hosting senior trips, from 4 in the 21/22 FY to 10 in the 23/24 FY, and continues to grow participation in the Senior Sneakers program.
