Dear Mr. Calabrigo, Crompton & Shields We are writing this letter on behalf of the El Pintado residents about our concerns and requests to improve traffic flow and safety in our neighborhood. We are all concerned about the current traffic bottlenecks and safety issues on El Pintado and El Cerro, even before the proposed development plans for the Darby Plaza. The proposed development will only make the current problems worse. We request the Town consider and address the following items. Maps and pictures are attached to help explain our ideas and requests. 1. Paint the pavement of the intersection of El Pintado, El Cerro and Adobe Drive with KEEP CLEAR. This intersection is dangerous and often blocked with traffic, especially during school hours in the morning and afternoon. It is hard for cars on El Pintado and Adobe Drive to turn left or enter El Cerro. We also ask the same for the intersection on El Cerro to the 680 Southbound ramp. (see drawing) 2. Paint the curbs red from the corner of El Cerro and El Pintado to and beyond the entrance of Darby Plaza to prevent parking. The road is narrow, and cars parked in this section of El Pintado makes it dangerous for traffic going either direction on El Pintado. 3. Widen El Cerro by one lane from El Pintado to the 680 On Ramp. We have met with Jeff Stone, the potential developer of the Darby Plaza and he has agreed to grant an easement for the additional lane. He also offered to grant an easement to widen the corner of El Pintado and El Cerro by one lane to improve safety and traffic flow. We realize this will likely require agreement from Cal Trans to modify the entrance of the On Ramp. We believe there is sufficient space to add a new right turn only lane and sidewalk without impacting the adjacent creek. 4. We appreciate and like the new pavement on El Pintado. The problem of speeding cars is exacerbated since the road is smooth. It is very dangerous for walkers in several sections of the road. We request speed humps be added to the most appropriate and dangerous spots on El Pintado to slow down traffic. This same issue is prevalent on El Rio, especially in the late afternoon when cars get backed up on 680 North. Commuters exit the freeway and take El Rio or El Pintado to the north entrance on El Pintado to bypass traffic. 5. We also request a new sidewalk approximately 100 yards long be added on the east side of El Pintado in the section of the road highlighted on the map. This is the narrowest and most dangerous section of the road for walkers. We are asking the Town and the Council to review our requests and act as soon as possible to improve the safety and traffic flow on El Pintado, Adobe Drive, and El Cerro. Thank you for your time and attention Sincerely, El Pintado Neighbors Glenn Novotny Tristan and Severine Munday Steven Scheiner James Clark Dave Curto Mike Whisler Christine Kehoe Dave Blair
