Dear Marie,
IÔm writing you in support of keeping the Danville Bicycle Commission in place in its current form.
I started the San Ramon Valley Mountain Bike Club (18) years ago ( head coach for 15 years) with the
mission of ÑThe positive development and mentoring of young men and women through mountain
biking with a focus on health, fitness, leadership and active community serviceÒ. In 2008 we started
with (11) students. We have since grown to over (115) students with a wait list and evenly split
between middle school and high school students.
Cycling has exploded in the Bay Area over the last 10 years and will continue to grow due to many
factors such as an active retirement community, more youth riding their bikes and the evolution of E-
bikes and and alternate means of transportation.
From my own personal experience I recognize the need to support cycling safety. Twenty four years
go I lost my only sibling, my brother to a bicycle/car encounter. Everyyear in the San Ramon Valley
a
members of our community are killed and families devastated due cycling accidents that most often
encounter a car.
You are well aware of all the high density housing that is currently being constructed in our
community, which will further increase the risks for all cyclist in our community.
I recognize that the risks of cycling accidents will always exist, but I also believe that through proper
input, awareness and long term planning we have the ability to reduce these risks to the community
over time. I believe by keeping the Danville Bicycle Commission in place, as it is currently set up,
offers our community the great opportunity to mitigate these know risks.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions Sincerely Coach Ken Mozek San Ramon
