HomeMy WebLinkAbout091724-05.1DANVILL E a CALIFORNIA PROCLAMATION NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH SEPTEMBER 15 - OCTOBER 15, 2024 WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the Hispanic and Latino communities, and WHEREAS, what began as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 was expanded to a 30 -day period by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to observe Hispanic Heritage Month, and WHEREAS, September 15th through October 15th is recognized as National Hispanic Heritage Month and is a time to honor the invaluable ways Hispanics and Latinos contribute to our common goals, highlight their countless achievements, and work tozc7ards a stronger, more inclusive and more prosperous society for all, and WHEREAS, Hispanics and Latinos have and continue to serve as Civil Rights leaders, politicians, military service members, educators, first responders, science pioneers, and public servants for our community and country, and WHEREAS, Hispanics and Latinos have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries old traditions that reflect the multi-ethnic and multi -cultural customs of their communities, While adding their own distinct and dynamic perspectives to the story of our country, now, therefore it be RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby proclaim September 15, 2024, through October 15, 2024, as National Hispanic Heritage Month in the Town of Danville and encourages all its citizens to join in celebrating the many contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our town, state, and nation.
