Arts Advisory Board – Regular Meeting Meeting Summary – Draft July 10, 2024 1. CALL TO ORDER The Danville Arts Advisory Board regular meeting was called to order by Chair Joyce at 4:00 p.m. in the Town Meeting Hall, 201 Front Street, Danville. CA. Present: Kim Bowles, Board Member Madeleine Roytfeld, Youth Member Mike White, Board Member Jane Joyce, Chair Excused: Scott Phillips, Board Member Charles Neary, Vice Chair 2. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF THE AGENDA There were no changes to the Order of the Agenda. 3. “FOR THE GOOD OF THE TOWN” There were no public comments. 4. CONSENT CALENDAR 4.1 Consider approval of the Summary of Actions from the May 8, 2024, Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission and Arts Advisory Board Joint Meeting MOTION BY BOARD MEMBER BOWLES, SECOND BY BOARD MEMBER WHITE, TO APPROVE THE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OF THE MAY 8, 2024 PARKS, RECREATION AND ARTS COMMISSION AND ARTS ADVISORY BOARD JOINT MEETING. MOTION CARRIED: 4-0-0-2. VICE CHAIR NEARY AND BOARD MEMBER PHILLIPS ABSENT. Parks, Recreation & Arts Commission & Arts Advisory Board Meeting Summary July 10, 2024 4.2 Selection of the Arts Advisory Board Chair Jessica Wallner noted the recommendation that the Arts Advisory Board nominate and vote the annual selection of the Chair position to serve through June 30, 2025. MOTION BY BOARD MEMBER BOWLES, SECOND BY BOARD MEMBER WHITE, TO NOMINATE VICE CHAIR NEARY TO THE POSITION OF CHAIR OF THE ARTS ADVISORY BOARD THROUGH JUNE 30, 2025. MOTION CARRIED: 4-0-0-2. Vice Chair Neary and Board Member Phillips absent 4.3 Selection of the Arts Advisory Board Vice Chair Jessica Wallner noted the recommendation that the Arts Advisory Board nominate and vote on the Vice Chair position to serve through June 30, 2025. MOTION BY BOARD MEMBER BOWLES, SECOND BY YOUTH MEMBER ROYTFELD, TO NOMINATE MIKE WHITE TO THE POSITION OF VICE CHAIR OF THE ARTS ADVISORY BOARD THROUGH JUNE 30, 2025. MOTION CARRIED: 4-0-0-2. Vice Chair Neary and Board Member Phillips absent 4.4 Consider approval of Arts Advisory Board meeting dates for 2025 Jessica Wallner noted the annual meeting schedule as shown on Attachment A. MOTION BY BOARD MEMBER BOWLES, SECOND BY BOARD MEMBER WHITE, TO APPROVE THE ANNUAL MEETING DATES FOR 2025. MOTION CARRIED: 4-0-0-2 Vice Chair Neary and Board Member Phillips absent PRESENTATIONS 5.1 Tile Public Art Project Jessica Walner provided a detailed update on the community public tile project on the retention wall at Oak Hill Park and provided samples of a variety of stencils of items relevant to the park to be used for the public tile art. Ms. Wallner responded to questions, suggestions and feedback from the Advisory Board. Parks, Recreation & Arts Commission & Arts Advisory Board Meeting Summary July 10, 2024 5.2 Town Updates Jessica Wallner reported that July was Park Make Life Better Month and Parks and Recreation Month. She provided staff updates in Recreation Services, which included the hiring of Martin Champion as the new Administrative Assistant, and two coordinators in Sports and Facilities, Lillian O’Keefe, and Shannon Peterson. She provided highlights of the summer programs and updates to the Village Theatre and Gallery, which included the painting of the Village Theatre and the mural to coincide with the latest Botanica exhibit. Ms. Wallner responded to questions from the Board. 5.3 Recreation, Arts & Community Services Report Jessica Wallner provided a detailed update of the activities, events and programs which have taken place in Recreation Services since the last meeting of the Arts Advisory Board on May 8, 2024. 5.3 Board Member Reports and Comments The Arts Advisory Board members reported on their activities and updates since the last meeting of May 8, 2024. 6.
