Ordinance No. 2024-07 prohibiting riding electric bicycles and motorized scooters on sidewalks in business districts within the Town of Danville The Town Council should not exclude regular bicycles from the ordinance being considered. While on the BAC, I supported and drafted the unanimously approved wording for the ordinance to specifically prohibit all bike riding in the busy downtown district. It makes sense. Explicitly excluding regular bikes is the same as an implicit approval of riding bikes in the congested downtown retail area where many residents, merchants, and property owners have complained. Ordinance will now allow regular bikes to ride on busy downtown sidewalks. Read full story ► These images are not real, but highlight the point that regardless of how a bike is equipped, bad riding behavior is bad riding behavior. And certain places are appropriate for riding, while others are not. Busy downtown pedestrian areas should allow all bikes or no bikes. I support no bikes of any type. (I have both types). I recommend the Council remove the exclusion of regular bikes in this ordinance and return to the wording as unanimously recommended by the Bicycle Advisory Commission. Best regards, David Williams
