PROCLAMATION
ALZHEIMER'S AND BRAIN AWARENESS MONTH
JUNE 2024
WHEREAS, according to the Alzheimer's Association, there are an estimated 6.9 million Americans over the age
of 65 living with Alzheimer's, and
WHEREAS, there are currently an estimated 719,700 people aged 65 and older living with Alzheimer's in the
state of California and 1,373,000 family caregivers providing 1.9 million hours of unpaid care valued at $44.3
million; and
WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan initiated the observance of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month in
1983 to raise awareness about Alzheimer's and get people involved in the recognition of the disease as well as the
types of care required by someone suffering from it, and
WHEREAS, researchers are making great progress in developing ways to accurately diagnose and treat
Alzheimer's disease, but we need to accelerate the pace of that research if we are going to have a disease -altering
treatment in the next 10 years, and
WHEREAS, the Alzheimer's Association is marking June as Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month and June
21, 2024 as "The Longest Day", a sunrise -to -sunset day of activity for community members to do what they love
in honor of who they love, and asking residents of Danville to learn more about Alzheimer's and become part of
the effort to combat the disease, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby proclaim June 2024 as Alzheimer's and Brain
Awareness Month and June 21, 2024 as "The Longest Day" in the Town of Danville and encourages all
community members to pledge to take a stand and spread the word about Alzheimer's disease.
