Attn: Marie Sunseri
Hello Marie,
My name is Sue Lee, a long time Danville resident. I am writing to support expanding the pickleball courts
at Osage Station Park, and I would like to participate in the Pickleball discussions at the May 21st 5:00
PM Town Council meeting.
I have been playing pickleball for several months at Osage Park, and I usually have to wait quite a while
for court availability. The existing 2 courts are not enough for all of us pickleball players. I understand
that 6 additional courts have been approved for construction but put on hold for now. I urge the Town
Council members to consider the needs of the many community members like me who want to play
pickleball at Osage Park and to proceed with the plan to build additional pickleball courts.
Thank you for your consideration of the many fellow community members' needs.

Park and I like to see everyone engaged in having fun. I would like to ideally see 4 courts dedicated to
Pickleball but absolutely no more than 6 as when that happens it draws others from out of the area and
that would lose that Danville social feel.

Dear Marie Sunseri,
My name is Joseph Dagamac and am a resident of Danville. I am in complete support of the Pickleball court
expansion at Osage Station Park. I believe these courts are in high demand and that the amount of individuals that

Pickleball at Osage Park offers ample opportunities to meet new people and make lasting friendships.
One of the best aspects of playing Pickleball at Osage Park is the incredible social interaction it provides.
When I first started playing at Osage I was amazed on how welcoming everyone was. I was joining a
community and more, a family.
Sure, the noise level of the Pickleball is some concern of the neighbors' that live close to the courts, but I
think some planning and rules could satisfy all parties.
Adding a few more courts would stop the log jam of Danville residents waiting to play on only TWO
courts.
I am one year shy of 80 years old. Where else in Danville can I be accepted by a community in playing a
Sport that offers me an activity that increases my cardiovascular fitness, balance, agility and coordination.
Please, for the benefit of the Danville community. add additional courts to Osage Park.

Hello Town Council and Town Officials,
I wanted to express my strong support for the proposed plan to increase the number of pickleball courts at Osage
Station Park.
It is truly impressive that the 2017 update to Parks, Recreation & Arts strategic plan update specified the goals of
diversifying activities at parks, increasing opportunities for users of all ages, and making existing parks do more and
work harder for the citizens.
Pickleball and its well-documented benefits fit perfectly with these goals. The sport is a very attractive draw that
brings people of all ages outside for exercise, competition, laughter, and developing new friendships. Also, with
these additional courts, the town will be able to provide new much-needed pickleball programming for beginners,
youth and families!

Regular meeting
Hello,
I am writing in support of expending the number of pickleball courts at Osage park. I am a 23 -
year resident of Danville. I started playing pickleball at Osage July 4th of 2022 with my wife as a
healthy outdoor couple activity. I now typically play four times a week, pickleball gets me off the
couch and outside exercising.
Playing pickleball has turned out to be much more than just exercise for us. We have met and
become friends with many other residents of Danville through playing pickleball that we would
not have ever met, let alone become friends with, if it had not been for pickleball. Pickleball has

grown so much as a sport. But what it has also done, which may be of more importance to the
community, is connect residents of different ages, generations, and walks of life through the
shared experience of pickleball.
I understand some of the concerns and complaints regarding noise, traffic, and parking from
residents in the neighborhood surrounding the park. However, I do not believe those same
concerns are raised when it comes to other sports being played, which have the same effect on
the neighbors as expending the pickleball courts would.
I was approached at a Danville restaurant to sign a petition opposing the expansion. This
person was just asking for signatures, there were no discussions with people regarding
concerns or benefits to the community. They just wanted a signature, until they recached me.
tried to have a neighborly discussion on the subject. I asked what their main concern was. It
was noise. I mentioned that the youth sports played next to the pickleball courts, and the school
recesses create more noise than pickleball. I also mentioned noise from gardeners /
landscapers also create more noise. Her reply was, are you even a Danville resident and
walked away. This is one of the reasons for me writing you all today. I don't feel that the
residents supporting the expansion maybe getting a fair shake.
In my opinion, it would be a disservice to our community not to expand pickleball courts, as the
benefits of connecting the community through sport and exercise is the reason for developing
and expanding our community parks.
Thank you for your time.

In Dec 2023 the Parks Commission already adopted the negative declaration of environmental significance and

The environmental study and the science speaks for itself. Please do not allow the self-interest of a few disgruntled

Pickleball has shown in numerous studies to have tangible physical, mental and emotional benefits to young and old.
Please allow the citizens of Danville to access these important benefits by expanding the number of courts at the

I want you to know that I support the development of additional pickleball courts at Osage Park. Our Parks &
Recreations need to continue to evolve to support developing and growing recreational activities. And pickleball is
definitely a huge growth area for our community. The two courts that are there today are always in use, with empty
tennis courts near by. I don't know if that necessitates additional conversion of tennis courts- but we need more
pickleball courts to support the residents of Danville.

8.1 Consider adoption of Resolution No. 29-2024, adopting a Mitigated Negative Declaration of

Dear Danville City Clerk and City Council:
Respectfully, Danville has always been a "progressive city" but not in the way Berkeley or Oakland unfortunately
are:-)
Rather Danville has always been and is known for being "progressive" for families and progressive for kids.
While we live in ALAMO, we go to Danville quite often for dinner with our neighbors and friends.
What we find amazing about Danville is the number of families and kids on the streets at night in Danville in safety
having a great time. Also the amazing amount of recreational activities for the kids and families that Danville
supports. That is what Danville is about and your vote on the Pickleball courts at Osage are exactly in line with this
kind of positive thinking. Don't let a few neighbors overwhelm you with misplaced antagonism.
These new Pickleball cards are going to be in the right spot that works and will benefit the community of Danville
overall, greatly.
I really hope you see the vote this way because these Pickleball courts will only add to the community and the
enjoyment for everyone in Danville.
Yes, for the greater good!

Re: Proposed Addition of Pickleball Courts
Danville Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission Meeting
November 9, 2022
Dear Members of the Danville Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission,
I am writing to express my support for the expansion of pickleball courts at Osage
Park and share with you what a valued part of the community they are. As a licensed
clinical psychologist and 20 -year resident of Danville, I believe adding pickleball courts
will support the health and wellness of our community. It supports the physical health of
our residents through vigorous exercise and our mental health through socialization and
stress management. It also strengthens our community bond through the participation in a
shared activity. The social connection that pickleball provides not only builds community,
but in itself, is a predictor of long-term health.
One of the most important aspects of pickleball at Osage is the concept of "drop-in
play." This means that when you have a break in your busy schedule, you can show up,
11
DANVILLE TOWN COUNCIL
SUPPLEMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE - in favor
MAY 21, 2024
get some exercise, and meet up with a friend or connect with someone new. This concept
is as the heart of community building and facilitates the health benefits described
above. A larger number of courts would provide for increased drop-in play, greater player
rotation and designated courts for both social and advanced play. Having played at
numerous venues both in California and out of state, 8 courts are the minimum amount to
achieve the type of benefits described above.
As an avid pickleball player, it is unfortunate that I rarely play at Osage. This is primarily
due to long wait times. There are simply not enough courts for a timely rotation of
players. In addition, the limited number of courts do not allow for differing levels of play.
That becomes a safety issue, as some players are more or less mobile. With the court
expansion, it would be wonderful to be able to stay and play in my own community, rather
than having to drive elsewhere. I know of many other Danville residents who are in the
same position as myself.
In my view, Osage is the ideal location for the proposed pickleball courts. With my
children attending Charlotte Wood, the pickleball courts would be a wonderful shared
space for both children, families and senior citizens. Not only does Osage have ample
space for pickleball courts, it also has a history of being used for recreational and
competitive sports, such as Mustang Soccer and Little League Baseball
tournaments. Osage park is a vibrant community park with many shared activities, and
pickleball courts would be a welcome addition to the Danville community.
Danville is known for being a family -friendly and community -oriented town who
values the health and wellness of its citizens and supports the growth and enrichment
of its residents. Building these pickleball courts are in line with these values.
I am looking forward to hearing about the future of pickleball in Danville and would
love to be of assistance in any way. I appreciate your thoughtful consideration of this
matter in furthering the greater good of our community.
Sincerely, Teresa Jacobs

pickleball courts at Osage Park. I believe the Commission approved the expansion after the sound and
transportation study was completed. I hope that the Town Council will also approve the expansion and build
a few more courts for the residents of Danville. Right now, most of the Danville residents have to travel to
other cities to play pickleball which is ironic since that's one of the complaints of the opposing group (not
12

wanting non -Danville residents to play at Osage). I live in Pleasanton and our courts were just built at the
end of 2022. I used to play at Rudgear Park in Walnut Creek 6-7 times a week and now I only go there maybe
once a week just to meet up with all the friends I made who live there. I know that with other cities now
building their own courts, not everyone will bombard one city's courts (ie. Rudgear Park) so traffic will be
manageable. Trust me, no matter how much you love playing pickleball, you still want to play in your own
backyard so these courts are for your Danville residents.
Osage Park is a pretty perfect location since it's already an active park (unlike Rudgear Park), has a nice -sized
dedicated parking lot (unlike Rudgear Park), nearby facilities (unlike Rudgear Park), and further away from
the neighbors (unlike Rudgear Park). I can't even begin to tell you about all the benefits this sport has
brought to individuals, families, and the community. It's the fastest growing sport for a reason. I know
there's a lot of pushback from the neighborhood but change is always scary. The Commission has already
done their homework and approved it. Please approve it as well and move forward with the pickleball court
expansion project.

It's quite obvious that only 2 courts in Danville are not enough.
Osage is a big park which can accommodate extra courts.
As for neighbor complaints, they live next to a park that have events taking place there
often. If you purchase near a park (or near a busy street) noise is expected.
There are so many more Pickleball players than complaining neighbors and we still live
in a democracy. Votes are important to politicians.
It has been proven that Pickleball prolongs longevity in adults It also promotes young
ones to play outdoors like it used to be. Many neighbors have children who may be
starting playing Pickleball.
Courts in Danville could stop our residents from driving to Pleasanton or Walnut Creek
to play which would be less pollution.
This email describes why I think there should be more courts at Osage park and the
sooner the better.

Courts. So much fun.

Subject: Pickleball Court Expansion at Osage - for discussion on 5/21 at Town Council meeting
To: Marie Sunseri, Danville City Clerk
From: Patty Walker, 28 -year Danville/Greenbrook Resident
Dear Marie,
I so appreciate the support of the Commission for the Pickleball community here in Danville. I have lived
in Danville in the Greenbrook neighborhood for over 28 years. It has been a wonderful community to both
work and raise my children. I love the importance the Danville Town Council has placed on celebrating
family and community. Expanding the opportunities Osage Station Park for families and neighbors to
play Pickleball supports our town's mission.
I am writing this to ask for the Town Council's support of the expansion of Pickleball courts at Osage
Station Park, and to let you know personally what the sport and community of Pickleball means to me and
my family.
When I was first introduced to the sport of Pickleball about 6 years ago, I found Pickleball in Walnut Creek
and Concord, but nothing here in Danville. I was so very excited when Osage Park reconfigured a tennis
court to 2 Pickleball courts! I live in Greenbrook neighborhood and Osage is where I walk my dog, bring
my granddaughter to play, watch my nephews play baseball, and now play pickleball. And here's why I
love the sport...
Pickleball is a low -impact sport which makes it appealing to people of all ages
Good exercise, easy to learn and a great way to stay active
Works on balance and coordination
Any Age Can Play (and so fun with my granddaughter!)
Minimal equipment required
Great way to build connections with my Danville community
With the courts at Osage, Pickleball provides a great connection with my neighbors and friends. I have
invited my neighbors to the courts, explained the game and dinked a bit with them. Soon they were
playing with the group. My Osage pickleball community has grown to be very important to me...a place
where everyone knows my name. Just last week they helped me celebrate my 70th birthday with cards,
flowers, cupcakes amidst playing Pickleball....very special!
Another favorite part of Pickleball is the fun time I have with my family, especially my 7 -year-old
granddaughter. My granddaughter and I have so much fun riding bikes to Osage and playing pickleball
together.
As I'm sure you've heard, we love the courts at Osage...we just need more to accommodate the
popularity of the game within our Danville Community. I was on the Commission's call when they
discussed the options to add courts at Osage and voted to support the expansion. I urge you to follow
through and build the additional courts at Osage Park. Pickleball is a wonderful way to support the
families and the community of Danville that I so love.

Subject: Support For Additional Pickleball Courts at Osage
City Clerk Marie Sunseri,
would like to submit my support for the addition of 6 pickleball courts at Osage Park. As so many others
can attest to, I've seen dramatic health benefits as a result of regular play. In addition the social aspects
can not be overlooked. Pickleball can be social as the court is compact allowing players to talk, laugh,
and react with each other during play. This encourages more conversations which leads to friendships
beyond the court. And this is true for the young and the more seasoned alike as the game often brings
together people from different generations. It's not uncommon to see someone who's 30 playing
alongside someone who's 65.
These additional courts will give more opportunity for the community to reap the health benefits as well as
get to know people outside their 'typical' social circle.
Please see the attached (very recent) article from National Geographic regarding the benefits of
Pickleball.

Marie Sunseri,
As a 36 -year resident of Danville, I am writing to express support for adding more
Pickleball Courts in Danville, per Agenda Item 8.1 at the Town Council Regular Meeting
on 5/21/2024.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the USA and World. It is easy to learn,
inexpensive to play, enhances physical, social, and emotional well-being. Plus brings
people together from all social, economic, and ethnic groups to the courts.
With only 2 public courts, Danville residents must often travel to neighboring cities to
find public courts, such as San Ramon, Pleasanton, Livermore, Walnut Creek,
Lafayette. and Concord.

I am Christina Syriani from Greenbrook. Pickleball has been a big physical and social
booster to me. I made many friends and stayed in good shape due to this awesome
game. Most days, there are too many of us waiting on the sideline waiting for a court.
I support the pickleball court expansion at Osage Park.

We both got into Pickleball during the pandemic and I can't tell you how much it has helped us.
I'm sure you have heard what the benefits are and I will continue to share them. I don't live in the community, so I
can't share what the neighbors are sharing, but I am hoping for several more courts so that the wait isn't so long at
the park. We would love for those that are against pickleball to just come out a few times and play a game or two
with us. They will fall in love with it!

Please allow the pickleball expansion to go forward as it would help the community
both young and old. I walk the park daily and haven't seen anything or heard anything
that would be detrimental to homeowners living in the area. I have only seen people
enjoying themselves without any problems.

Good morning,
We definitely need at least two more courts, 4 total, with the amount of players that
show up every morning of the week at Osage park.
This going back and forth is wasting time and money.
If you reduce the amount of courts there is a possibility that we can be done with it all.
Appreciate if you could at least consider 4 courts total as a possibility to accommodate
everyone.
Thank you, from a happy pickleball player.

Subject: In favor of installation of additional pickleball courts- council meeting 5/21/24 agenda item 8.1
Hello,
I am in favor of the installation of six new pickleball courts at Osage Park.
Having been an avid pickleball player for the past six years, I believe in the health and mental benefits which would
be realized with this sport.
Pickleball is a very social sport. There are so many positive aspects of having a group of people form friendships
from these gatherings.
From a business perspective, people tend to leave the courts and continue to local communities, in this case,
downtown Danville to enjoy a nice lunch or to have a drink, thus supporting local commerce.
Please consider adding courts to Osage Park since the demand for play time is needed. Thank you.

I would like to address the ongoing issue of expanding the pickleball courts at Osage
park.
I have lived in Danville for over 25 years in a couple of locations.
I am in favor of adding more courts at Osage park. I believe the park is well suited to
adding more courts. The park's central location, ample parking and facilities are ideal.
This is not a small neighborhood park. It hosts baseball, soccer and many other sports.
The notion that pickleball makes "too much noise" is preposterous. So many other
activities at the park make way more noise. Cheering parents, the referees shrieking
whistles or the sharp "ping"of baseball bats to name a few. Let's not even talk about
when the middle school lets out. With the screaming kids and parents zipping around
their cars.
My point is, this is a big, highly used park with a middle school adjacent. There is
plenty of noise that anyone who moved next to it should have been aware of and ok
with.
This is a park for ALL of the Town of Danville, not just the few who border it.
Sincerely
David Bonnie
