SUBJECT: Review and Consider 2024 Bicycle Advisory Commission Workplan and
Activities
BACKGROUND
The objective of the Bicycle Advisory Commission ("Commission") is to carryforward the
initiatives and recommendations defined in the Bicycle Master Plan ("BMP"). The BMP
provides a roadmap for the prioritization and implementation of bicycle improvements
and sets policy on how to further encourage and promote bicycling as a safe and viable
form of transportation in the Town of Danville.
At its workshop on September 25, 2023, the Commission reviewed its objectives and
accomplishments for its first full year of service. In summary, accomplishments for the
BAC in 2022 and 2023 included:
• Formation of four (4) Subcommittees;
• Evaluations of Iron Horse Trail crossings and corridor;
• Evaluation of bicycle routes to schools;
• Developed a Marketing and Outreach Plan and materials;
• Review and approval of the Towns 2023 and 2024 Transportation Development Act
grant applications;
• Received updates and provided comments/input on dissemination of Townwide
bicycle collision data;
• Received updates on CIP bicycle -related projects and funding;
• Received reports and provided comments on Town of Danville's Age Friendly
Roadmap and City of San Ramon s Micromobility Program;
• Review and approval of a bicycle count station location;
• Attended and participated in bicycle related -community events in Fall 2022 and
Spring 2023 consisting of the San Ramon Valley Street Smarts Community Bicycle
Festivals and 511 Contra Costa Bike to Work Day
DISCUSSION
In support and advancement of the BMP, the following goals and objectives are
recommended for the Commission's consideration to prioritize for the 2024 calendar year:
• Advance activities of the appointed BAC Subcommittees:
o Iron Horse Trail Crossing/ Corridor Assessments and Monitoring
Subcommittee - Chair Bilodeau and Commissioner Kalin
o Marketing, Education and Outreach Subcommittee - Vice Chair Wang and
Commissioner Williams
o Bicycling to School - Routes and Safety Assessments Subcommittee -
Commissioner Williams and Commissioner Choi
o Bicycle Wayfinding and Connectivity Subcommittee -Chair Bilodeau and
Commissioner Call
• Review and Comment on 2024 bicycle improvement grant applications such as
TDA, HSIP and Safe Streets for All (SS4A);
• Receive updates on and comment on bicycle -centric Capital Improvement Program
Projects, such as C-621, Townwide Bicycle Improvements and C-607, Iron Horse
Trail Crossing Improvements and C-055, Diablo Road Trail;
• In collaboration with Town staff, plan and implement one "pop-up" demonstration
bicycle project;
• Actively participate in community events to promote cycling in Danville including
the May 2024 San Ramon Valley Street Smarts Community Bicycle Rodeo and
Chalotte Wood Middle School and 511 Contra Costa Bike to Work Day
• Work with other non -government bicycle organizations (such as Bike East Bay) to
support and advance Town bicycle initiatives.
• Continue to identify opportunities to develop and implement the role of the
commissioners as ambassadors to the community in support of the implementation
of the Bicycle Master Plan.

Review and Consider 2024 Bicycle Advisory Commission Workplan.
