Selection of exhibits for the Village Theatre Art Gallery is guided by the Town's
Curatorial Committee. The five -member Curatorial Committee is comprised of
individuals who have a professional background in the visual/ cultural arts, arts
education municipal cultural arts programs or gallery, museum or curatorial experience.
The Curatorial Committee reviews exhibition proposals and ensures exhibitions are
appropriate for the Danville community. Committee members will assist in hosting
receptions, securing artists, curating exhibits and promoting gallery events.
Objectives:
• Assess exhibition opportunities which will appeal to, engage and educate the
Danville community
• Base decisions on the aesthetic, original, social, intellectual and technical merits of
proposals
• Foster collaboration and partnerships between the Town of Danville, artists and
art organizations
■ Promote awareness of the Town's cultural arts offerings through exhibits and
programming
• Maintain a fair and objective opinion to benefit the Danville community
• Coordination of one exhibit per year which may include studio visits, research,
promotional efforts, opening receptions and direct outreach as appropriate
Selection Process and Guidelines:
The Town of Danville staff will facilitate interviews for applicants that meet the above
criteria on an as needed basis. To ensure a diversity of programs and to eliminate conflicts
of interest, Curatorial Committee members may not exhibit their own artwork or suggest
exhibitions that may benefit or promote personal commercial gain of any kind.
Committee members may submit proposals for exhibitions that include themselves as
curators only and must be approved by the Committee and the Recreation, Arts &
Community Services Director or their designee.
Terms:
Members serve on a five -person committee for up to two years and are eligible to reapply
for one additional two-year term, not to exceed a total of four years consecutively. The
committee is comprised of individuals who have a professional background in the
visual/ cultural arts, arts education municipal cultural arts programs or gallery, museum
or curatorial experience. The Curatorial Committee will include one member from the
Town of Danville Arts Advisory Board. That member will be appointed by the Arts
Advisory Board, serve for up to two years.

The Committee will meet quarterly on a predetermined schedule unless notified by Town
Staff. The Committee may also be asked to participate in other exhibition -related research
such as studio visits, local gallery/museum visits, and other meetings related to
individual exhibitions as assigned. Committee members are expected to attend gallery
related events, primarily opening receptions which are approximately four times per
year. Committee members are highly encouraged to volunteer in the gallery at least one
time per gallery exhibition or as needed.
