Parks and Recreation make lives and communities better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering place. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS REFLECT THE MISSION OF PARKS AND RECREATION: STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE 1 of 4 ATTACHMENT A STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY As the fall showers begin, maintenance activities throughout the Town continue. This includes drinking fountain repairs, replacing bathroom soap dispensers, replacing a doggie waste bag dispenser and cleaning 10 BBQ pits at Osage Station Park. The nets at Monte Vista High School and Diablo Vista Park received weekly cleaning and adjustments as needed. Push buttons for the lights were also replaced on both sides. Graffiti was removed at Diablo Vista Park and Oak Hill Park men’s public bathrooms. Weekly preparation of the bocce ball courts continues with additional work, such as replacing one of the lights. Weekly maintenance of the dog parks was done at Hap Magee Ranch Park with potholing of the large dog park turf and cleaning of all three drinking fountains in both the large and small dog parks. The Cottage received a nice cleaning, detailing the interior and cleaning the white board and walls. Water features were turned off at Sycamore Valley Park and Hap Magee Ranch Park for the season. Ongoing special events continue at the Town Green, with extra garbage cans being placed on site and adjustments being made to the irrigation. Bi-weekly playground inspections continue at Hap Magee Ranch Park, Osage Station Park, Oak Hill Park, Danville South Park, Sycamore Valley Park, Diablo Vista Park and Montair School. Repairs were completed on a handrail at Montair School playground, and three caps were put on the handrail in front of the play area at Osage Station Park. Broken glass was also removed from the basketball court at Danville South Park. Monthly cleaning and grooming of the synthetic turf fields at Sycamore Valley Park and Diablo Vista Park was completed and a utility box by the bocce ball courts at Sycamore Valley Park was adjusted. Car ruts in the grass were filled and seeded at Diablo Vista Park due to vandalism. PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES As irrigation is reduced due to the cooler weather, irrigation checks and repairs continue with one mainline being repaired at Hap Magee Ranch Park and one quick coupler valve being replaced on the ball field at Green Valley School. Additionally, one mainline break was repaired and a valve, 10 rotors, 22 bubblers as well as 10 popup heads were replaced at Osage Station Park. A new irrigation panel was also installed in the controller at Greenbrook School. All sports turf fields were aerated and fertilized with organic fertilizer at Vista Grande School, Montair School, Green Valley School, Baldwin School, Osage Station Park, Sycamore Valley Park, and Diablo Vista Park. Maintenance pruning of 16 trees was completed at Osage Station Park along with 16 trees at Oak Hill Park, one at Danville South Park, three at Baldwin School, 10 at Greenbrook School, and eight trees blocking the lights at the bocce ball and basketball courts at Sycamore Valley Park. PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES 2 of 4 The Town of Danville continued its annual Spooktacular Celebration on October 26. The festivities included a Haunted Mansion theme, arts & crafts, outdoor games, as well as a pumpkin patch. 375 participants were in attendance at this year’s Spooktacular Celebration. Senior softball has started for its Fall 2023/Winter 2024 season. Six teams are enjoying the fresh turf at Sycamore Valley Park! The Teen Center Program continues to delight participants with a variety of games, crafts, and activities. Food crafts have been especially popular the month of October- between making ice cream cones and decorating cookies, teen centers are where to find a sweet treat after school. PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELLNESS INCREASE CULTURAL UNITY 3 of 4 The 3rd Annual Walk-tober event took place on Friday, October 20 at Osage Station Park. Participants enjoyed a 5K walk around Osage Park in a supportive environment, a goodie bag from sponsors and their Walk-tober t-shirt. After their walk, participants got to refuel with a BBQ lunch hot off the grill. On October 7, The Village Theatre hosted a nearly full house for Jubilee Road, a local band. The event started at 7pm and ran for 2 hours. Jubilee Road is most known for their vocal harmonies and acoustic stylings. Jubilee Road performed arrangements of some of the most memorable and best-loved songs from artists such as: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills and Nash, etc. Guests were also treated to an opening performance by Impulse A Capella and a special guest performance from acclaimed vocalist, Darryl Rowe. 4 of 4 On October 27 at 7pm, the Village Theatre did the Time Warp and presented a special screening of Rocky Horror Picture show. The Theatre filled with patrons dressed for the occasion in their best costumes and themed guises. Prior to the performance, there was a brief costume parade where patrons walked on stage, posed and were cheered on by a supportive crowd. Over 30 dogs and their owners enjoyed pup-achinos served by Starbucks staff, a photo opportunity with hay bales and seasonal décor, a costume contest with several categories and the ever-popular puppy parade.
