Sustainable microtransit projects are accelerating in the Bay Area, while
receiving significant grant funding
City of Cupertino
• On -demand service that spans the
whole city plus the Sunnyvale Caltrain
station
• 85% of riders would mostly travel by
private car without Via
• Expanding to Santa Clara late 2023,
with a new EV fleet, as a result of
$8.5M TIRCP grant

0 PALO ALTO
City of Palo Alto
• Launched in March 2023, deploying
both hybrids and fully electric vehicles,
with the intention to eventually
transition fully to EVs
• Spans most of the City and will
integrate with local fixed route transit
options
City of Richmond
• Uses PHEVs to provide general mobility
to underserved areas in Richmond and
efficient FMLM connections to BART,
Amtrak, and the SF Bay Ferry
• Funded through a $1.5M CMO grant;
recently won an FTA EMI grant to
commingle the City's paratransit
service
