HomeMy WebLinkAbout092723-03.1 Discovery Counseling Center Discovery Counseling Center Tri Valley Cities Council September 27th, 2023 1 Our Mission Providing affordable, high quality and accessible counseling services and programs; Offering excellent and highly-regarded training for future mental health professionals; Creating greater awareness in our community of the prevalence of mental wellness issues and the importance of early treatment; Serving as the community’s advocate in securing adequate funding and resources for the treatment of mental wellness issues. Be the community’s leader in mental wellness by: 2 Our Clinic Individual and Group Therapy, Family and Couples Counseling. Our dedicated staff conducts approximately 8,000 client sessions a year in our Danville and San Ramon offices. No one is turned away because of an inability to pay full fees. 3 Our Clients Over 70% of our clients qualify for financial assistance. We offer services on an income-based sliding scale. 75% of our clients live in Alamo, Danville, or San Ramon The other 25% come mostly from Walnut Creek, Dublin, or Pleasanton Client ages: 6 to 99. <10 7% 10-18 37% 19-29 12% 30-39 10% 40-49 21% 50-59 10% 60+ 3% 4 The Thrift Station Discovery Support 100% Volunteer In 2023 The Thrift Station will mark 12,000,000 in donations to Discovery Counseling Center! 120 active volunteers manage sales, accept donations, sort, price and merchandise quality items 5 School Counseling and Intervention Program SCIP (partnership with SRVUSD) Premise: Allow students to easily access support in an effort to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all students, helping them develop the necessary skills to solve problems and cope with life’s challenges In 36 schools last year SCIP Counselors saw 392 students 5,864 sessions (+ 452 collateral sessions) with students of all ages. 6 Piloted April 2022 Kids Country Summer Town of Danville in 2022 ECO CAMP Studies show exposure to nature helps improve attention, promote prosocial behaviors, reduce stress, and bolster overall mental and physical wellbeing in children.
