Dear Town Council,
Danville needs a safe firearms storage ordinance. For a 12 month period, while my three children were in SRVUSD
schools, I tracked the notifications of lockdowns due to campus threats or threat of gun violence on a SRVUSD campus.
There were 7 emails sent to all parents of SRVUSD, issued as follows:
12/13/18:Threat of violence directed at SRVUSD staff.
1/24/19: Lockdown at San Ramon Valley High
9/17/19:Threat of gun violence at Diablo Vista Middle School
11/15/19: Lockdown at Iron Horse Middle School
11/15/19: Threat of gun violence at Iron Horse Middle School
12/3/19:Threat of death, Coyote Creek Elementary School
9/12/19:Threat of gun violence at Windermere Ranch Middle School
The above is just a small sampling of threats in our local schools. There have been many more. The threat of gun
violence in our community is REAL and our community leaders on the Town Council must act now. Gun violence is
terrorizing our children and our community. You have the power to make a difference.
The nationwide epidemic of gun violence has already hit Danville, notably the August murder/suicide in Greenbrook.
Be reminded of October, 2017 incident when a Twin Creeks Elementary student brought a loaded firearm to school in his
backpack.
Death by firearms is now the LEADING cause of death of children in the United States. In up to 80% of incidents
of gun violence on school grounds, shooters obtain the guns from their own home, a
relative's home or from friends. We don't have to live like this.
Incidents of gun violence are preventable with safe storage measures. Both the NRA and
the National Shooting Sports Foundation support proper gun storage as evidenced in the
attached safety flier and web post.
Please do the right thing for our Danville families and support a safe firearms storage
ordinance.
Sincerely,
Nancy Daetz

Firearms
Responsibility
Not long ago, in another town, some kids
found a firearm. Maybe they were looking for it
because of something they saw on television.
Maybe one of them dared the other to find it.
Maybe they just found a firearm that was left out
by mistake. It doesn't matter why they found it.
What matters is the firearm was loaded, and
they played with it. Now they are very sorry they
did. Don't let this happen to you. Always follow
these safety rules:
1
1. Don't go looking for firearms, in your house or
a friend's house. Don't let other kids look for
firearms in your house.
2. If you find a firearm in your house — or
anywhere else — leave it alone. Don't touch it!
Don't let anyone else touch it! Tell an adult.
3. Even if a firearm looks like a toy — don't touch
it! Some real firearms look like toys. Don't take !
a chance. Tell an adult.
i
Remember... if you find a firearm,
don't pick it up. Just leave it alone.
And tell an adult right away.
