I'm taking the time today to write you a short note about this gun safe storage ordinance.
My back ground is I run Guns Unlimited Repair in Dublin, Ca. I have been a Federal Gun Dealer for over 47 years and ran
this business out of Dublin 43 years. So let me help you understand the complex gun laws we have on the books in CA.
1. Ca requires all gun sold in the state to be done by a FFL gun dealer and on the Ca centralized list.
2. All citizens will go through a back ground check with DOJ and the Feds.
3. All citizens will be required to wait 10 days to pick the gun up only if they pass the back ground check. (DROS)
4. The citizens must have a firearms safety card that is given to them by the DOJ. This requires a test on line and must
get 23 out of 30 questions right.
5. They are required to show proof of residency (PG&E Bill) and it must match their CA driver license (no Federal limits),
currents FSC card (no more than 5 years old).
6. Have to pass a Safe Handling Demo by a DOJ instructor and sign a Affidavit.
7. All guns sold in the state of CA going back to Jan 2002 must be sold transferred in CA must have a safety device (Penal
Code 23620)
8. If the person has a Gun Safe or lox box he then will sign a ownership Affidavit.
Feds have the youth handgun safety act notice and that's been in place from 2004 and they receive a copy of the law. In
Ca when a person buys a gun he will receive a card telling him about the importance of securing the firearm from
children.
9. All dealers have 10 signs in the building that are to be reviewed by the buyer and they explain everything the state
require to keep guns unloaded in the house with ammo stored separate and signs telling the person that you can be
guilty of a misdemeanor and put in prison if you keep a firearm where minor can obtain it.
We also have over 100 gun laws on the books in CA and yet crime is still up. Why? well its because the criminals dont
follow the laws only the law abiding citizens. please stop adding laws and enforce the ones we have.
