HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.2 Attachment A1 OF 3 ATTACHMENT A Creating Community through People, Arts, Parks & Programs STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE Summer is quickly approaching, and the Town has been busy with various projects. Maintenance has been conducted at both dog parks at Hap Magee Ranch Park, including cleaning the drinking fountains and addressing turf areas with potholes. The Town also fertilized the large dog park using organic fertilizer. In addition, there was a new refrigerator installed in the Swain House and consolidated furniture and electronics at the Cottage house. At Montair School, signs were reinstalled on the fencing following the installation of new fencing by the School District along with a new bench installed. Additionally, at Sycamore Valley Park, a bench was resurfaced, sanded, and stained, as well as two benches at Greenbrook School. At Osage Station Park, six drinking fountains were repaired, 39 memorial roses were replanted, and two areas of the creek bank were stabilized following damage caused by excessive winter rains. As part of the creek project, 12 cubic yards of tree branches were removed to help minimize future erosion. Lastly, graffiti was removed from the men’s public bathrooms at Oak Hill Park and Diablo Vista Park. STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY Construction of the new playground at Oak Hill Park continues to progress very well and it remains on track to open this summer! Bi-weekly playground inspections are ongoing at Montair School, Osage Station Park, Hap Magee Ranch Park, Sycamore Valley Park, and Diablo Vista Park, ensuring the safety of all Town-maintained play structures. Monthly cleaning and grooming of the synthetic field at Diablo Vista Park were also completed. Decomposed granite was added to low spots in the pathway at Hap Magee Ranch Park near the Cottage and first aid kits in the Cottage, Swain house, and Magee house have been restocked. • Provide Recreational Experiences • Support Economic Development • Promote Health and Wellness • Increase Cultural Unity • Foster Human Development THE FOLLOWING ITEMS REFLECT THE MISSION OF PARKS AND RECREATION: • Strengthen Community Image and Sense of Place • Strengthen Safety and Security • Facilitate Community Problem Solving • Protect Environmental Resources These items may also reflect how Parks Make Life Better! Parks and Recreation make lives and communities better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering place. MAY ACTIVITIES • JUNE MEETING 2 OF 3 FACILITATE COMMUNITY PROBLEM SOLVING Irrigation inspections, repairs, and controller reprogramming have been conducted at various locations, including Diablo Vista Park, Sycamore Valley Park, Osage Station Park, Hap Magee Ranch Park, Montair School, Vista Grande School, Baldwin School, the Town Green, and Danville South Park. Repairs of note include fixing a leaking quick coupler valve on the baseball field at Green Valley School, addressing a weeping valve and resetting the irrigation pump at Baldwin School, repairing a broken lateral line and installing a sprinkler block on a rotor at Osage Station Park, and fixing two mainline breaks at Oak Hill Park. Slit seeding has been completed on all sports fields at Diablo Vista Park, Sycamore Valley Park, Osage Station Park, Baldwin School, Montair School, Vista Grande School, and Green Valley School. Organic fertilizer has been applied to the sports fields at Sycamore Valley Park and Diablo Vista Park. Ongoing tree maintenance efforts include the removal of two trees near the tennis courts at Diablo Vista Park, pruning of a tree in the play area at Danville South Park, pruning of seven redwood trees at Baldwin School, and pruning of six trees in the parking lot of Oak Hill Park. The DYC meeting on Monday, May 8 concluded the 2022 – 2023 Danville Youth Council. At the final meeting, the DYC said goodbye to seven graduating seniors and welcomed twelve new members for the 2023-2024 school year. The graduating seniors gave their advice to the new members which consisted of making sure to get involved as much as possible, really express your ideas, and to ultimately have fun. PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES On Thursday, May 11 almost 50 seniors took a cruise on the Sacramento River. They sailed past Old Sacramento’s famous historical sites, including the Delta King, the I Street Bridge, the Tower Bridge, and the Air Force Docks. The seniors also had a chance to explore Old Town Sacramento before the cruise. Adult softball came to an end in the month of May. 13 teams played on Monday and Thursday nights. Adult softball will be taking a break for the summer as the turf at Sycamore Valley Park is replaced but play will begin again for the fall season. 3 OF 3 FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT On May 20, the Cultural Arts team hosted an Art in the Park day on the Town Green for kids ages 5-10 years old and their families. Kids enjoyed making messy artwork and exploring new ways to create beautiful artwork using marbles and toy cars to paint. Fun was had by all in this relaxing atmosphere making artwork in the park! PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER The Facilities Management Team took in 81 picnics for the month of May. Among the most popular parks are Hap Magee Ranch Park, Osage Station Park and Sycamore Valley Park. Parks are increasingly being used for a wide range of venues, making them very popular promoting memorable experiences and staying connected and engaged within our community.
