MEETING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS REFLECT THE MISSION OF PARKS AND RECREATION: •Strengthen Community Image and Sense of Place •Strengthen Safety and Security •Facilitate Community Problem Solving •Protect Environmental Resources •Provide Recreational Experiences •Support Economic Development •Promote Health and Wellness •Increase Cultural Unity •Foster Human Development STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE In the aftermath of the recent major storm events, clean-up efforts continue but so do many other projects. Work continues in both dog parks at Hap Magee Ranch Park, including aerating, seeding, top-dressing, and installing 520 square feet of sod in the small dog park. Mulch washed up against the fence in the large dog park was rototilled and six yards of debris was removed in preparation for new mulch to be installed. The basketball nets were replaced on the courts at Sycamore Valley Park, Diablo Vista Park, and Danville South Park. Graffiti was removed in the public bathroom at Oak Hill Park three times. 10 yards of mulch were added in various landscape areas at Osage Station Park and another 10 yards were added to the entry statement at Diablo Vista Park. STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY All tennis court lights at Monte Vista High School were replaced and tested. Bi-weekly playground inspections were completed at Osage Station Park, Montair School, Hap Magee Ranch Park, Diablo Vista Park, Sycamore Valley Park, Oak Hill Park, and Danville South Park. The front door of the maintenance shed at Osage Station Park was repaired and two cover plates were repaired on the pathway lights at Oak Hill Park. The porch light and motion sensor at the Swain House and Magee House at Hap Magee Ranch Park were repaired, while the annual San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District inspection of all houses at Hap Magee Ranch Park was completed. A pathway light was replaced and playground fibar was cleaned in the play area at Danville South Park. Ruts in the track were repaired for the kids to run on and 1 ½ yards of tree limbs that had fallen due to the storms were removed at Baldwin School. 1 OF 4 ATTACHMENT A These items may also reflect how Parks Make Life Better! Parks and Recreation make lives and communities better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering. 2 OF 4 PROVIDE ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES At Oak Hill Park, an irrigation mainline was repaired in the parking lot and the grass was seeded and top-dressed where trees were removed in the lower picnic area. The annual project of pruning all roses at Osage Station Park was completed, along with the pruning of 32 trees in the picnic area. Trees around the back sports field at Baldwin School were pruned, as were three crape myrtle trees at Greenbrook School. Removed dead plant material and pruned three trees at Diablo Vista Park, and removed a fallen limb and pruned three crape myrtle trees near the bocce ball courts at Sycamore Valley Park. Bi-monthly soil treatments were applied to sports field turf at Sycamore Valley Park, Diablo Vista Park, Green Valley School, Vista Grande School, and Montair School. PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES On Monday, February 13, the Danville Youth Council had the pleasure of having Town Council as special guests for the February meeting. DYC thought of six carefully crafted questions to ask the Town Council in hopes of learning more about their decision-making process, how they deal with differing opinions, and what they want to know about the teens of Danville. The DYC learned a lot from Town Council and are thankful for this special opportunity. The Town of Danville has begun recruiting for the 2023 Aquatics and Summer Camp season. New camp staff applications will be open until May 12, and Aquatics applications will be accepted until all positions have been filled. We encourage any community member 15 years of age and older to apply for the most fun job in town! A summer job can lead to the start of a career and cultivate skills essential to longer-term success. SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT On Thursday, February 9, the Danville Senior Center held a Valentine’s Day Cookie Decorating party. Seniors each received four hearts cookies to decorate from the Danville’s very own, Old Towne Danville Bakery. Once they finish decorating, the cookies were put into a Valentine’s themed bag that could be given to a loved one or for them to enjoy themselves! 3 OF 4 PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS Girls on the Run has officially started in the Town of Danville as of Tuesday, February 28. For the month of March, April, and May on Tuesday and Thursdays, 3rd – 5th graders run around Sycamore Valley Park with their coaches all while learning about social-emotional skills and connecting with each other in a supportive environment. INCREASE CULTURAL UNITY On Saturday, February 11, at 7:30pm, Danville brough back Comedy at the Village Theatre with Chicago Steve Barkley headlining. Radio host, Roman Guzman hosted with featured Comedian, mike Betancourt. A crowd came to the Village Theatre for an event that was in high demand and the laughs were certainly delivered. FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT During the Young at Art workshop, kids had so much fun touring the current Art Exhibit, From Sand to Silicon Chip: New Technology in Clay and learning all about how technology is used to create artwork. They toured the gallery and then made their own fun clay art. 4 OF 4 PROJECT & EVENT UPDATES March 2: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Party March 4: Teen Job & Career Fair at the Pleasanton Senior Center March 7: Tea Dance at the Danville Senior Center March 16: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration March 17: Teen Night at Diablo Vista Middle School March 18: Danville Amazing Race March 20: Bingo at the Danville Senior Center March 25: Opening Reception for Convergence, The Intersection of Wax, Color Pigment and Design at the Village Theatre Art Gallery March 31: Stroll Down Penny Lane Concert: Celebrating the Life and Music on Paul McCartney PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER On February 21, the Town of Danville hosted another fully attended Kids’ Day Out. Even when school is on break, kids need a place to go! Staff kept twenty elementary-aged participants engaged all day with various activities. Some of the fun highlights from the day include outdoor games, painting Welcome signs, and enjoying Oak Hill Park playground.
