To: The Danville Town Council and all concerned party’s regarding the production of the Danville Hot Summer Sunday Car Show September 10, 2023 Dear Team members, please accept my apologies for not attending the study session last week pertaining to our Car Show. I had an important personal appointment that could not be rescheduled and conflicted with my attending that meeting. I would appreciate your consideration and support for a few requests that I am asking for. 1 1. I want it to be known that I, as the Producer of this event, oppose the Meridian Barriers that will prohibit show vehicle exiting and or emergency entry vehicles from entering our venue if needed in a serious downtown emergency. Our show venue has an extremely narrow foot print once all show cars and vendors are placed. In the event of a large scale emergency, I’m sure that show cars would attempt to leave without direction and cause a huge back up known as a “cluster jam”. If emergency vehicles who need to enter quickly to handle an emergency, all traffic would be locked down and could result into a catastrophic sad disaster and outcome. If Non movable barriers are used, we must have a Meridian attendant who can remove said barriers “immediately“ when needed to allow emergency vehicles entering and exiting. My primary concern for all of our guests and community is Safety first. If this was just a walk around wine tasting event, I would favor street lock down closures for the publics safety……but NOT when we have 350-400 show cars filling up our small down town area. I believe Meridian Barriers are a very bad idea. Last year four show cars some how parked with out approval in the middle of Hartz Ave. and Prospect St. The show concluded and the car owners were no where to be found to move their cars. At closing time a major Grid lock followed causing all traffic to come to a halt. It was stressful and caused a major problem. We finally got it solved once we found the car owners twenty minutes late. 2. I would like to have street closure at 6 AM instead of 7 AM on show day. I always ask for 6 AM but for some reason I’m denied that request. I need that extra one hour to Register and greet volunteers and issue walkie talkies. To make sure unauthorized parked cars are cleared off the show venue if left over night by accident. To help and direct vendors for booth set up. To close down the show venue for set up purposes and to set up our HQ booth and show car registration and entry. Time is needed to shut down the show and open up our show venue. This extra hour eliminates stress that makes the show difficult to set up. Our show cars expect to make entry at 8 AM. Just one hour makes this part of the show extremely difficult to start. 3. We always utilize Hartz Ave at Linda Mesa north to the Rail Road Ave traffic light for staging and registration. We fill this area to the max up unto 11:00 AM. We are predicting a large turn out of show cars because of our “one date” car show this year. We feel many car owners will not want to miss our legendary event and therefore turnout could be very strong. Please consider and allow our show venue to have and control this northern area of Hartz Ave until closing time….5PM. If show car turnout doesn’t justify extra parking space, we can easily open it up to regular community traffic after 11:00am or anytime as needed. My production team has already begun to develop our show and we have some great feed back from the general public. We’ve booked our entertainment, the National Horseless Carriage Club will return and attend again. We are honoring the Iconic Chevrolet Corvette as this year is its 70th Anniversary further assuring a large turn out of historic show cars. I would appreciate your consideration and support to my suggestions as we all continue to enjoy this Legendary Car Show. Again, my first priority is the safety of all attendees. We have plenty of time until our show, if we need another study session to adjust any concern, I will gladly comply and attend. Thank you again David R.
