Dear Mayor Storer, Vice Mayor Stepper, and Councilmembers Arnerich, Fong, and Morgan,
As you are aware, the 2 year mark of the tragic death of Tyrell Wilson at the hands of a Contra Costa County Sheriff's
Deputy in Danville, is approaching on 3/11. I, and many in the Danville community, believe it is of the utmost importance
to continue to uplift the humanity of the two men that were killed in our town, Tyrell Wilson and Laudemer Arboleda.
The recent action of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to unanimously adopt March 8 as Tyrell Wilson
Remembrance Day, should be followed by the town of Danville. Additionally, we must not forget Laudemer Arboleda.
Let's acknowledge the preciousness of his life and the wrong done when it was brutally taken by adopting next February
9 (his birthday) as Laudemer Arboleda Remembrance Day.
Both of these men had mental health struggles and I know that mental health care is something the council believes is
important to fund and support. Tyrell and Laudemer were both let down by a system that did not provide them
adequate care and instead took their lives. We must recognize our own culpability in this failure and attempt to make
amends by honoring them and lifting up their humanity. Adopting these two Remembrance Days is a significant step in
the right direction.
Please heed the calls of the community and act accordingly. Additionally, we would still like to see some sort of
permanent memorial. One idea that has been circling is renaming a street in their honor. How could we go about making
this happen?
All the best,
Sarah
