Dear Danville Town Council:
My name is Andrea Joseph-Nickels and I live at 312 Merrilee Place, Danville. I've lived here for 32+years.
I understand there may be some who will speak tonight in opposition to additional pickleball courts at Osage
Station. Those of us who have attended the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission Meetings for the last four months in
support of the Pickleball Court Expansion have heard the opposition repeatedly voice the same concerns. I doubt there
will be new concerns, except perhaps one. What I've seen on Nextdoor and deduced from the Commission meetings, is
the opposition's concern that members of the Commission appear to favor adding Pickleball courts to this public park.
Why wouldn't the commission want to do everything possible so as to properly add courts to Osage Station based on
support for this fastest growing sport in the world?
Those opposed seem to believe there is an "original state" (my word) to which Osage must be maintained. My research
on the park says that it has evolved very nicely over the years. You know the history. I see no reason why the park would
cease to evolve due to homeowners who feel entitled to claim Osage as their backyard, a park only for children, a danger
to Charlotte Wood education, traffic, and noise (the latter two for which the CEQA is being conducted with final expansion
decision dependent on results and any mitigating factors) to name some issues I've heard expressed.
I have participated in the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission Meetings via Zoom since last fall. The commission has
been professional, patient (good grief, patient) and have gone overboard to allow everyone to speak. I appreciate the
commission and look forward to continuing to participate and follow the journey to add pickleball courts to Osage, with
proper risk mitigation if/as needed. I hope the commission is permitted to continue to operate on facts. I look forward to
the results of the environmental studies the Commission has underway and participating in the public comments once
they are available.
Thank you. Andrea Nickels
