PROCLAMATION
IN RECOGNITION OF CELEBRATIONS OF THE LUNAR NEW YEAR
WHEREAS, the Chinese New Year is a time of joy and renewal, and a time to illustrate the rich cultural
history and diversity, and
WHEREAS, as a non-profit organization, Bay Valley Chinese School has been celebrating Asian cultures,
advancing community leadership and providing multi-language resources in Danville and the Tri-Valley
areas for 20 years; and
WHEREAS, the Lunar Nein Year, also known as Chinese Nein Year and the Spring Festival, is the most
important holiday for the Chinese community, it means great joy and happiness, togetherness with family,
the closing of the old year and the welcoming of a prosperous nein beginning, and
WHEREAS, Chinese New Year marks the transition between zodiac signs: 2023 is the year of the Rabbit;
2022 the year of the Tiger. The Lunar New Year on January 22, 2023 brings the Year of the Rabbit,fourth
in the 12-animal Chinese zodiac cycle, and
WHEREAS, the annual Chinese Nein Year Celebration not only provides an educational opportunity for
the community to express the vibrancy of Chinese traditions, but also opens up an opportunity for the
community to embrace the cultural significance of the Lunar Nezn Year,and
WHEREAS, the Lunar Nein Year is the most important day in the Chinese calendar- more than one billion
people will feast With relatives, match parades and pray for good fortune in the year ahead, nozn, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby wish the Danville community every success in
Welcoming the Year of the Rabbit, and we wish good health and good fortune to all those who celebrate the
Lunar Nein Year.
