HomeMy WebLinkAbout020723-05.1 DANVILLE CALIFORNIA PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 2023 AS BLACK HISTORY MONTH WHEREAS, during Black History Month, we celebrate the many achievements and contributions made by African Americans to our economic, cultural, spiritual, and political development, and WHEREAS, in 1926,famous historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, established what mould become Black History Month to bring special awareness of African American accomplishments and their contributions to American history, and WHEREAS, the observance of Black History Month calls our attention to the continued need to battle racism and build a society that lives up to its democratic ideals; and WHEREAS, the Toznn of Danville is committed to being an inclusive community in which all citizens—past, present, and future—are respected and recognized for their contributions and potential contributions to our community, the state, the country, and the world, and WHEREAS, the Town of Danville is proud to honor the history and contributions of African Americans in our community, and supports the theme of honoring Black families who are part of our Town landscape, and WHEREAS, the Town of Danville will join with the nation in celebrating the 47th National Black History Month by honoring the essential contributions, sacrifices, and accomplishments African Americans have made to the U.S. as part of American history, nozn, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby recognize the month of February as Black History Month and continues our efforts to honor the accomplishments of African Americans in every endeavor throughout our history.
