HomeMy WebLinkAbout052022 5.2 The Danville Age-Friendly Roadmap– Charts a course of action to promote health equity across the life span and enable residents of all ages to stay connected and engaged in their communities. Domains of Livability – The five Domains of Livability were derived during the community driven process. These Domains include: Transportation Housing Social Connections & Community Support Outdoor & Indoor Facilities Activities & Programs A Call to Action - The Age-Friendly Roadmap provides tools for the Town of Danville, the Senior Advisory Commission, and the community to improve the quality of life for residents of all ages. Strategic Directions - The following are accomplishments as they relate to the Roadmap specifically through the five Domains of Livability. Transportation: Provide accessible, safe, convenient and affordable travel options – including public transit, rideshare, walking and biking – to get people of all ages where they need to go. Creation of a Bicycle Advisory Commission Adoption of a Town-wide Bicycle Master Plan (July 6, 2021). Staff held an informational interview with Mobility Matters staff to learn more about volunteer-led driving programs. Staff met with Transportation Manager to discuss general opportunities in the program area County Connections Mobile Lobby Program: County Connections staff have an information table at the Senior Center for walk-up questions (February 22, 2022 & June 28, 2022). Provide referrals to Mobility Matters and the Information & Assistance line through Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department for those seeking transportation support. Housing: Assure that older people can age in place – stay in their homes and communities for as long as possible – and have a diverse range of housing options that are accessible, safe, convenient and affordable. Town ADU program (Garden Cottage Program) The 18th Annual Lend-a-Hand Day took place on April 23, 2022 and provided Senior Yardwork Assistance to local senior residents. 68 volunteers of all ages assisted their senior neighbors by weeding, spreading mulch, planting and cleaning gutters. Staff provide referrals to the Information & Assistance line through Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department for those seeking housing support. Buzz Session: I Need to Downsize: Now What? (March 15, 2022) Commissioners provided input by participating in Housing Element process. Social Connections & Community Support: Create opportunities for intergenerational and multicultural interaction that promote health and wellness and connect people of all ages to a diverse array of resources and services available in Danville. Staff continue to track inquiries and provide information and referral to residents seeking social connections or support utilizing the County Senior Resource Guide, Way to Go Contra Costa!, and the Information & Assistance line through Contra Costa County. The Danville Senior Center hosted two clubs including the Book Club and the Senior Friday Bridge group in the 2021-2022 Fiscal Year. HICAP Counseling continues to hold free appointments two days a month in the Danville Senior Center Art Room. All Danville Senior related Instagram posts include the hashtag #seniorsrock to showcase aging in a positive light. 4,035 frozen meals were distributed during FY21-22 through the curbside weekly frozen meal program in partnership with Contra Costa County. The creation of a Resources Table in the Senior Center hallway to provide more in-depth information on social services. Updating the Town website to include all the resources outlined in the Hub for Resources. Senior Advisory Commission participated in a joint meeting with Parks, Recreation & Arts Commission and Arts Advisory Board regarding the Downtown Master Plan process. Senior Commissioners had a presence at 25 events or programs throughout the year, including Coffee with the Commissioners on February 8, 2022. Outdoor & Indoor Facilities: Provide people of all ages and abilities with indoor and outdoor places to gather, exercise, socialize and access services to support active and healthy lifestyles. Celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the Danville Senior Center on April 28, 2022 with an open house-style celebration. Approximately 108 attendees enjoyed appetizers, conversation, a slide show and door prizes. Auggie the Acorn was also in attendance! Senior programs continue to take place at the Danville Community Center, the Danville Senior Center, Village Theatre, the Mt. Diablo Room of the Danville Library and outdoor spaces such as the Bocce Courts & Softball Fields at Sycamore Valley Park. Staff provided a Village Theatre Exhibit & Art Gallery Tour on April 26, 2022, as part of the Buzz Session series. The Breakfast with Friends program has resumed and creates a social opportunity for seniors to gather at a local restaurant, both supporting local businesses and social interaction. Activities & Programs: Offer a wide variety of learning, fitness, social, multicultural and intergenerational activities for people of all ages, abilities and incomes to enjoy. 208 Pre-registration programs including Buzz Sessions, Classes and Clubs were offered from July 1, 2021, through present day, which included 2,131 registrations for those activities. Buzz Sessions: Free weekly lecture series on a wide range of topics offered in-person. Senior sports leagues including Senior Softball and Senior Bocce have resumed to normal or higher than pre-COVID numbers. Free weekly movies have resumed at the Danville Senior Center with a current title each week, including foreign films and award-winning movies. The 3rd Annual Senior Variety Show took place on December 11, 2021, providing a family-friendly of performers 50 and older to an audience of all ages.
