SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION
SPECIAL MEETING
SUMMARY OF ACTIONS
OCTOBER 27, 2021 - DRAFT
1. CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission was called to order by Chair
Hendra at 4:00 pm. The meeting was conducted by teleconference only.
1.1 Roll Call
Yvonne Nouri, Administrative Assistant, conducted the roll call for attendance

1.2 Announcements
Yvonne Nouri, Administrative Assistant, provided information regarding the format
of the meeting and instructions for public comment.
2. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF THE AGENDA
There were no changes to the order of the agenda.

There were no speakers.

4.1. Approval of the Summary of Actions from the July 28, 2021 Senior Advisory
Commission Special Meeting.
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DONNELLY, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER MOODY,
TO APPROVE THE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OF THE JULY 28, 2021 SENIOR
ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING.
MOTION CARRIED 5-0
4.2 Review Age-Friendly Roadmap Strategic Plan Outline and Provide Staff with
Feedback
The Commissioners shared their feedback and provided input on the Age-Friendly
Roadmap Strategic Plan Outline which included suggestions that some of the items
could be combined, selecting the top priorities, sharing the information with the
other Town Commissions, focus on resources and services and implementation
strategies and costs.
5.1 Town and Senior Center Program Updates
Leah Martinez provided an update on the Senior Center programs, highlighting
attendance has met or exceeded pre-Covid numbers in our online classes, consistent
numbers in our frozen meals curbside program which will continue through 2021. She
provided updates on Senior classes and programs, and noted that senior activities are
now included as part of the Activity Guide. Upcoming events include the Poinsettia and
Cheese trip, our first in 2021, and the annual Senior Variety Show on December 11. Ms.
Martinez also shared the Senior Center has hired Bonnie Mertz as a part-time program
assistant who is working with contract instructors.
Please save the date for Tuesday, December 14 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm to meet with MIG,
likely via Zoom, to review the final draft of the Age-Friendly Roadmap.
Ms. Martinez responded to questions and comments from the Commission.
5.2 Commissioner’s Reports and Comments

Commissioner Freshman reported that as the liaison for the Parks Commission, there
was a discussion about the sports field lighting project at the Diablo Vista Park . In
September, the group had a presentation on mental health and its connection to parks
and recreation, as well as with issues of social isolation during the Covid 19 pandemic,
both in mental as well as physical health. He also attended the Senior Variety Show
auditions as a Commission representative.
Commissioner Donnelly shared that The American Society on Aging Conference will
be in New Orleans (April 11-14, 2022): www.asaging.org. The Council on Aging is
working on its annual report and recommendations to bring to the supervisors to
allocate funds and begin implementing the master plan for aging in California, and
working with other County departments as well to begin a coordinated effort for
implementation. He reported on Measure X, finding money for accessible
transportation for seniors, a key issue for seniors who have lost ability to drive.
Chair Moody reported that as the liaison for the Planning Commission, at its last
meeting they discussed the development of proposals to increase trending upwards
for ADU. She attended the Variety Show auditions as a Commission representative
with staff and shared that CPC also has a senior program and are interested in
collaborating with our program.
Commissioner Foster reported that COVIA, in Walnut Creek, has a program called
Home Match for seniors who need help to maintain their homes or for seniors who
want to live with someone else, or co-house to share expenses. She also shared that
the Valley Oak Adult Day/Respite Center operated by Diablo Valley Foundation is
housed at the Danville Congregational Church Campus and provides services for
those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia and provides respite for their
caretakers as well.
Chair Hendra reported on the upcoming webinar on Eldercare & COVID-19. As the
liaison to Town Council, she reported a great resource is to view videos of Town
Council meetings which provide an overview and are informative. She reported that
staff keeps track of many legislative items as well as local and federal programs.

She reported on the Community Crisis response bill which will be helpful for the
senior population. She shared information from an article in the East Bay Times
regarding how Covid has transformed aging.
Leah Martinez reminded the Commission to please save the date for Tuesday,
December 14 from 1:00pm – 3:00pm to meet with MIG, likely via Zoom, to review the
final draft of the Age-Friendly Roadmap.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The special meeting of the Danville Senior Advisory Commission was adjourned at
4:00 p.m.
