SUMMARY OF ACTIONS - DRAFT
JULY 28, 2021
CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission was called to order by Chair Moody at 4:00 pm. The meeting was conducted by teleconference only.

1.2 Announcements
Gail Massagli, Administrative Assistant, provided information regarding the format of the meeting and instructions for public comment.
1.3 Introduction of newly-appointed Senior Advisory Commissioner
Commissioner Roxanne Foster was introduced and welcomed to the Senior Advisory Commission. Commissioner Foster provided a brief biography of her years of service in health care and
non-profit management and her interest in seniors which led to her joining the Commission.
CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF THE AGENDA
There were no changes to the order of the agenda.

ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION/ACTION
Approval of the Summary of Actions from the January 27, 2021 Senior Advisory Commission Special Meeting.
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER FRESHMAN, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER HENDRA, TO APPROVE THE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OF THE JANUARY 25, 2021 SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING.
MOTION CARRIED 5-0-0.
4.2 Selection of the Senior Advisory Commission Chair
Leah Martinez discussed the role and responsibilities as outlined in the staff report. Commissioner Freshman nominated Vice Chair Hendra to the Chair position for the 2021-2022 term.
MOTION BY COMMISSIONER FRESHMAN, SECOND BY COMMISSIOINER DONNELLY, TO SELECT VICE CHAIR HENDRA TO THE CHAIR POSITION OF THE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION.
MOTION CARRIED: 5-0-0.
4.3 Selection of the Senior Advisory Commission Vice Chair
Ms. Martinez provided an update of the roles and responsibilities of the Vice Chair position, which runs from August 1, 2021 to July 30, 2022. Commissioner Moody nominated Commissioner
Freshman to the Vice Chair position.

4.4 Consider the approval of Senior Advisory Commission meeting dates for 2022
Chair Moody highlighted the staff report outlining the 2022 Senior Advisory Commission meeting dates.
MOTION BY COMMISIONER DONNELLY, SECOND BY VICE CHAIR HENDRA, TO APPROVE THE SENIOR ADVISORY MEETING DATES FOR 2022.
MOTION CARRIED: 5-0-0
4.5 Update of Senior Advisory Commission Liaison Assignments
Ms. Martinez highlighted the Liaison Committee Assignment Summary roles as shown in Item 4.4, Exhibit 1 and requested the Commissioners review their current assignments. The Commissioners
discussed changes in the Primary and Alternate positions of the assignments and the Liaison Committee Assignment Summary was updated to reflect these changes.
There was consensus to update the liaison list as discussed.
Chair Moody inquired about the possibility of adding a Commissioner Mentor position to the Senior Advisory Commission Liaison assignments. Ms. Martinez said she would share this information
with the City Clerk and report back at the next meeting.
5.0 REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS
5.1 Town and Senior Center Updates
Leah Martinez thanked Commissioner Moody for her leadership as Chair during the Covid pandemic. Leah shared that Jessica Wallner has been promoted to Recreation Superintendent in which
some of her responsibilities will include support of Senior Programming as part of her new role at the Senior Center.
The Senior Center is on track for full opening on September 1, 2021 in a strategic safe schedule. The hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm and Fridays, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The Friday meal program will be moving to Mondays to coordinate with our Monday Fun Day schedule. Buzz sessions have returned back in the building, as have I-phone classes and a popular
Western Swing class has been added to the Senior program. The senior program is now part of the Activity Guide. Ms. Martinez reminded the Commission of the Senior Age-Friendly Roadmap
Workshop on August 13 and Mr. Perezalonso thanked the Commissioners with their assistance on the intercept events.
5.2 Activity Report
Henry Perezalonso referred to the June 2021 report highlighting how we are creating community through People, Parks, Arts and Programs. He shared that July is “Parks Make Life Better”
month and focusing on how we have been “telling our story.” Highlights included that summer camps are now in full swing. Cultural Arts is currently showcasing Shrumen Lumen and there
will be a special event on August 5, Art After Dark. Senior updates included that Summer Bocce and Senior Softball are well underway with strong registration. The pickle ball courts
are popular and getting lots of use.
5.3 Commissioner’s Reports
Vice Chair Hendra commended Commissioner Donnelly for the invitation to the Area Council on Aging Conference featuring a keynote speaker from UCSF. She thanked Chair Moody for all her
hard work during these interesting times on the Senior Advisory Commission.
Commission Freshman congratulated Leah Martinez and her husband on their new arrival and welcomed her return to work. He also welcomed Roxanne Foster as a new member to the Senior Advisory
Commission. As the Parks and Recreation liaison, he shared reports from their meeting in April, which included the success
of the pickle ball courts at Osage Station Park. He provided information about the deteriorating condition of the barn structures at Hap Magee Ranch Park. In May, there was a presentation
of the Bicycle Master Plan for the Town to improve safety and access for bike riders in Danville and the plan has been approved and moving towards implementation.
Commissioner Freshman also reported that the Arts Advisory Board added a new Commissioner to their Board and will be making some leadership changes to their liaison Committees. He thanked
Commissioner Donnelly for the invitation to the Area Council on Aging Conference as well as Henry Perezalonso and Jessica Wallner for their community outreach for the Age-Friendly Roadmap
and expressed his appreciation to Chair Moody for her leadership.
Commissioner Donnelly shared 150 people attended the Master Plan on Aging Conference. He reported the Area Agency on Aging is having its Executive Committee meeting of the Advisory Council
on Aging and will discuss their findings. On the State level, they are working on getting the Master Plan implemented. There will also be a meeting to present recommendations from
the Committee on how to spend Measure X funds, and the possibility to get more funding for accessible transportation for seniors.
Commissioner Foster provided background on the Caring Hands program she founded in 1998 at Kaiser, where transportation was the number one request and need, and shared the current importance
and need for transportation in this area.
Chair Moody reported on her positive informative experience as the liaison to the Town Council and that she found Council members were instrumental regarding the welfare of all residents
and taking care of downtown, keeping it strong and viable. Currently, the Council is inviting and informing residents to participate in the engagement on the impact of the housing element.
Chair Moody also reported on her liaison assignment to the Planning Commission and reported that the current emphasis is on the housing development. She commented on the progress of
the Clock Tower Square project.
Chair Moody welcomed Leah Martinez back from her leave and welcomed Gail Massagli, who hosted the meeting on behalf of Town staff. She congratulated Chair Hendra and Vice Chair Freshman
on their recent appointments to their positions, as well as extended a welcome to Commissioner Foster to the Senior Advisory Commission. She commented that Commissioner Donnelly’s input
was valuable and thanked the Commission for their help in collecting data which will now be shared with the consultants.
Leah Martinez reminded the Commissioners of the August 13 meeting workshop and shared information regarding those who will attend on behalf of the Town staff and other Commissions.
