HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1 SOA DraftTOWN OF DANVILLE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING SUMMARY OF ACTIONS JANUARY 27, 2021 1. CALL TO ORDER 4.1 The special meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission was called to order by Chair Moody at 4:00 pm. The meeting was conducted by teleconference only. 1.1 Roll Call Kristine Meidberg, Administrative Assistant, conducted the roll call for attendance Present: Jim Donnelly, Commissioner Steven Freshman, Commissioner David Grant, Commissioner Candace Hendra, Vice Chair Sandra Moody, Chair Announcements Kristine Meidberg, Administrative Assistant, provided information regarding the format of the meeting and instructions for public comment. 2. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF THE AGENDA There were no changes to the order of the agenda. 3. "FOR THE GOOD OF THE TOWN" Vice Mayor Arnerich congratulated Commissioners Freshman and Commissioner Grant on their new appointments to the Senior Advisory Commission, 4. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION/ACTION Senior Advisory Commission Summary of Actions January 27, 2021 4.1. Approval of the Summary of Actions from the October 28, 2020 Senior Advisory Commission Special Meeting. MOTION BY COMMISSIONER HENDRA, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER FRESHMAN, TO APPROVE THE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OF THE OCTOBER 28, 2020 SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 5-0 4.2 Introduction of newly -appointed Senior Advisory Commissioners Commissioner Freshman and Commissioner Grant introduced themselves and shared information regarding their backgrounds and their interest and enthusiasm in serving on the Senior Advisory Commission. Chair Moody welcomed Commissioners Freshman and Grant to their first meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission. 4.3 Update of Senior Advisory Commission Liaison Assignments Leah Martinez explained the role of the Senior Advisory Commission liaison assignments and advised there were two vacancies on the Liaison Committee Assignments Summary due to Commissioner Fong's appointment to Town Council, and Commissioner Ficken's appointment as an alternate to the Planning Commission. Commissioner Freshman will serve as the primary liaison to the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission, replacing Commissioner Fong, and Commissioner Donnelly will serve as the alternate liaison. Commissioner Grant will serve as the alternate liaison to the Planning Commission, replacing Commissioner Ficken. All other appointments remain the same. MOTION BY COMMISSIONER DONNELLY, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER HENDRA, TO APPROVE THE UPDATES TO THE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION LIAISON ASSIGNMENTS. 2 Senior Advisory Commission Summary of Actions January 27, 2021 MOTION CARRIED: 5-0 5.0 REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 5.1 Discussion of Senior Advisory Commission Roadmap to Age -friendly Danville Leah Martinez introduced Lauren Schmitt from MIG Consulting, noting that she had previously provided a presentation on this topic at the October 28, 2020 Senior Advisory Commission workshop. Lauren Schmitt provided a comprehensive summary from the October meeting workshop, outlining several key components of the Roadmap and responded to questions from the Commissioners. 5.2 Town and Program Updates Leah Martinez provided updates in the Senior Center program which included continued outreach to the Senior community, active enrollment in virtual classes, the online mailing of the Seniors at Home Guide monthly newsletter, and the growth of the senior lunch program. Leah responded to comments and questions from the Commissioners. 5.3 Activity Report Leah Martinez identified the Activity Report serves as a guideline for what the Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department is engaged in. She updated the various activities that have occurred since the last meeting in October, which include cross -generational Zoom interviews, one-on-one virtual tech classes for seniors through AnewVista.com, and a volunteer program which assists in the Senior Lunch Program as well as decorating the Senior Center for the holidays. 5.4 Commissioner's Reports Commissioner Donnelly updated he was elected President of the Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging. He provided an update in the areas of Mobility Matters, the County COVID-19 vaccine programs, including board and 3 Senior Advisory Commission Summary of Actions January 27, 2021 care facilities having access to vaccines, and the Contra Costa County Transit Commission. He congratulated Commissioners Freshman and Grant for their appointments to the Senior Advisory Commission. Commissioner Hendra provided an update on the COVID-19 vaccine program and the importance of outreach and getting information out to the Community regarding accessibility and availability for appointments. Chair Moody thanked staff for their efforts to have the community come together for various opportunities at this time and congratulated the new Commissioners on their appointments, 6.
