HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1 Summary of Actions 1023194' Y DAIYI�MLE 4' TOWN OF DANVILLE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OCTOBER 23, 2019 1. CALL TO ORDER AND ESTABLISH QUORUM Chair Fong called the regular meeting of the Danville Senior Advisory Commission to order at 4:02 pm in the Town Meeting Hall, 201 Front Street, Danville, CA 94526. PRESENT: Jim Donnelly Dave Fong Candace Hendra Sandra Moody ABSENT: Bob Ficken 2. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF THE AGENDA Item #3, "FOR THE GOOD OF THE TOWN" occurred at the end of the meeting due to late arrival of several of the speakers. 3. "FOR THE GOOD OF THE TOWN Ms. Judy Braaten, Danville, addressed the Commission regarding the cost of the senior trips and classes offered through the senior program and the concern that many seniors are on fixed incomes which makes it difficult to participate in those activities. Ms. Melinda Kahler, Danville, addressed the Commission regarding the cost of some of the activities and inquired how the Town allots the funding for the senior program. Mayor Storer addressed the Commission and shared he was looking forward to future ideas the Commission will bring forth to facilitate the next generation of seniors to age in place. He reported that due to the recent power outages, the Town has focused on emergency preparedness. Public Safety Officer Jeff Hebel has reached out to rehabilitation, convalescent and in-home care locations to identify where all these locations are. 4. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION/ACTION 4.1 Consider approving the Summary of Actions from the July 24, 2019 regular meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission MOTION BY COMMISSIONER HENDRA, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER MOODY, TO APPROVE THE SUMMARY OF ACTIONS OF THE JULY 24, 2019 SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MOTION CARRIED 4-1-0-0 4.2 Designation of Senior Advisory Commission Liaison Assignments The following liaison assignments were selected by the Senior Advisory Commission • Town Council Primary: Chair Fong - Alternate: Commissioner Moody * Planning Commission Primary: Commissioner Moody - Alternate: Chair Fong * Parks, Recreation & Arts Commission Primary: Commissioner Donnelly - Alternate: Commissioner Ficken • Event Participation Coordinator Ad Hoc Committee - Primary: Commissioner Hendra 4.3 Recommendations for Annual Town Council Volunteer Recognition and Community Service Awards Leah Madonich shared a brief history of the Annual Town Council Volunteer Recognition and Community Service awards program and offered suggestions specific to the Senior Center of potential candidates for the award. Ms. Madonich responded to questions from the Commission regarding the suggested nominations. 5. REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 5.1 Senior Advisory Commission Draft Work Plan Discussion Leah Madonich commented on the progress and feedback she has received from the Commissioners regarding the prioritization of the matrix items and strategies for moving forward to implement and achieve the various goals identified in the Work Plan to make Danville an age -friendly city. Ms. Madonich responded to questions from the Commissioners. IPA 5.2 Town Updates Leah Madonich presented an update of senior events and programs since the last meeting of July 24, 2019, which included the popularity of the Walk- tober event, the Friday Cafe senior lunch program at the Senior Center, the growth of the Silver Screen movie program, and peer support groups. 5.3 Commissioners' Reports and Comments Commissioner Donnelly provided information regarding the Contra Costa County Council on Aging Needs Assessment Survey to help develop the county's four-year Area Plan on Aging. The survey is open until October, and an analysis will be made of the results. The Advisory Council on Aging is planning a one -day seminar next September called "Aging in Contra Costa - Now What?" Vice Chair Moody commented on the value of the Silver Streak Newsletter and the importance of the buzz sessions and how they correlate with the vision and mission of the Strategic Plan. Chair Fong and Commissioner Donnelly shared they would like to increase outreach for the programs and activities the Town offers as well as other opportunities to position Danville as a senior -friendly community. 5.4 Activity Report for September 2019 The Activity Report was provided to the Commissioners but was not presented at the Commission as an agenda item to discuss. 6.
