Ongoing Tuesday Maintenance of both dog parks continues at Hap Magee Ranch Park. Cleaning and unclogging of drinking fountains, dog friendly flea treatments, pruning of six trees and cleaning and blowing off DG areas in both dog parks was completed. Pot holing of the large dog park continues along with pressure washing the picnic area for rentals, adding DG to the walking path near the picnic area and replacing a toilet seat in the women’s public bathroom at Hap Magee Ranch Park. Bocce ball courts continue to be prepped and blown out weekly for league play and marking of the softball fields monthly continues at Sycamore Valley Park. Three drinking fountains at Osage Station Park were unclogged. At Oak Hill Park, two garbage cans on the vita course were replaced, the main field was detailed, the pathway was pressure washed, and the irrigation schedule was adjusted for a special event. Unity Day happened on October 19, 2022. Unity Day is a national anti-bullying initiative that supports acceptance, inclusion, and kindness. The Recreation, Arts, & Community Services Department wore orange in support. These items may also reflect how Parks Make Life Better! Parks and Recreation make lives and communities better now and in the future by providing access to nature, outdoor space to play and exercise, free-time fun in positive spaces, and socializing and learning in a gathering place. OCT. ACTIVITIES • NOV. MEETING STRENGTHEN SAFETY AND SECURITY Tennis and pickleball courts had nets adjusted, were cleaned, and blown off weekly at Osage Station Park, Diablo Vista Park, and Monte Vista High School. Bi-weekly playground inspections were completed at Osage Station, Sycamore Valley Park, Diablo Vista Park, Oak Hill Park, Hap Magee Ranch Park, Danville South Park and Montair School. The annual fire inspection was performed at the Hap Magee Ranch Park buildings, and the pathway light timer was adjusted to account for it getting darker earlier and the door lock at the Cottage was repaired. Potholed all sports fields at Osage Station Park, Sycamore Valley Park, Diablo Vista Park, Montair School, Baldwin School, Green Valley School, and Vista Grande’ School. FACILITATE COMMUNITY PROBLEM SOLVING As the weather gets cooler and the days shorter, irrigation schedules have been reduced at all park and roadside areas. Irrigation inspections continue, with two mainline repairs and one lateral line repair at Osage Station Park, one mainline and three lateral line repairs at Danville South Park, irrigation pump and master valve repairs at Baldwin School, 30 sprinkler heads repaired at Hap Magee Ranch Park, and one lateral line at Sycamore Valley Park. Ongoing tree work continues, with six trees being pruned and a large fallen limb removed at Osage Station Park, eight trees pruned at Oak Hill Park, three trees pruned, and three dead shrubs removed at Greenbrook School, 12 trees pruned at Hap Magee Ranch Park, and 22 trees pruned, and dead shrubs removed by the tennis courts at Diablo Vista Park. Every other year soil samples are taken from all sports fields and applications follow from the recommendations from our turf consultant based on testing of the soil profile. Applications have begun and bi-monthly treating of the soil is being performed, allowing the Town to use organic fertilizer on sports fields at Osage Station Park, Sycamore Valley Park, Diablo Vista Park, Baldwin School, Montair School, Vista Grande’ School and Green Valley School. Retirement Bootcamp at the Danville Senior Center concluded with a panel of recent retirees. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to ask the panelists how they decided it was time to retire, the key elements of a successful retirement plan and reflections since they have made the leap into retirement. 2 OF 5 3 OF 5 PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES The Town of Danville continued its annual Spooktacular Celebration by hosting an outdoor carnival on Thursday, October 27. The festivities included a Charlie Brown theme, arts & crafts, pumpkin patch, carnival games, and spooktacular time. Over three hundred and seventy-five participants attended this amazing event held on the Town Green. SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT The Scarecrow Stroll returned for a 3rd year of fall festive fun! This year eleven businesses participated in the stroll by creating whimsical witches, super frogs, and stylish friends. PROMOTE HEALTH & WELLNESS Senior softball started swinging on October 12. Five teams are participating in the Fall/ Winter league this season! Men 65 and older and women 63 years and older can participate. 4 OF 5 On October 27, the Village Theatre Art Gallery hosted a Young @ Art Children’s art workshop in the gallery. Kids were led on an art tour and discussion of abstract artwork and then made their own artwork inspired by the art they saw and discussed on their tour. INCREASE CULTURAL UNITY On October 21 at 5pm, the Village Theatre screened a classic film in the spirt of suspense and thrills with Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” starring James Stewart. Those who attended were entered into a raffle in which the prize was the official Board Game of the same name. FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT On October 20, the Village Theatre Art Gallery hosted an Artists’ Opening Reception for the newest art exhibition, Imagine That! This exhibit features a colorful and eclectic collection of abstract paintings and mixed media art. The first annual Howl-o-Ween event took place on Saturday, October 28. Festivities included a pupachino bar, coffee for the humans, a pet parade and costume contest. What a treat!
