I really hope that the plans to increase the number of pickleball courts in Danville continues to move forward. I enjoy playing there several times a week. The community of players there are so welcoming to new people. 2 courts is just not enough for the amount of people that want to play. Pickleball is such a wonderful sport for all ages. It is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise and I feelOsage Park is a great location to add a few more courts for the people who live in the area.Kind regards,

I just wanted to express my appreciation for your forward thinking approach to creating thefirst two courts in Danville last year and for your proposed pickleball court expansion atOsage park. As a player of two years I am so excited we will more courts in ourneighborhood.
Having played at Danville regularly I can attest to the need for additional courts. The healthbenefits I get by playing and being outdoors is amazing. It’s truly a way to get exercise, connect with community members and neighbors and create new and lasting friendships. I amfully in support of your planned pickleball court expansion.

Hi all, I've just heard there is some opposition to the proposed plan to build some newPickleball courts at Osage Park. I want to voice my support for the new courts for thefollowing reasons.
Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport that people of all ages can and do play. It's relatively easy to learn, which makes it a low barrier to entry for most. Alsoaffordable, compared to sports like baseball, golf, etc. I started with a starter set fromAmazon for $40 for two paddles and some balls. It is a great way to utilize our park land, as it will be used quite often vs how that spaceis used now. The utilization per person per square foot is high compared to all of the other sports thatare played at Osage, which brings high value for the land used (or bang for the buck, orwhatever term you want to use ;)I came from racquetball and transitioned to Pickleball during the pandemic. I found thatmany other people have also learned to play recently and it's so encouraging to see somany people out enjoying themselves outside, and at a place where you don't need tobelong to a private club to participate. Pickleball is a very social sport as well, so a great place to meet new friends. Many people from the area now play PB, and there are not nearly enough courts atOsage. There is usually a waiting list to play on those courts for most of the day, so Ijust end up going elsewhere. I think we would all say that the pilot program ofconverting a rarely used tennis court to 2 pickleball courts was a success. Many of us travel to Walnut Creek or Concord to play, but it would be great to playclose to home. I'd be riding my bike to the courts :)The proposed addition of 12 courts would be well utilized, as the popularity of the sportcontinues to grow..I think the argument that it will bring "crowds" to the park doesn't really hold muchmerit. isn't that the point? to have space for us to enjoy? Would we suggest that themany incredible facilities such as the picnic tables, baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts anre a negative because many people use them? I don't agree at all with the argument that the extra courts and people will "ruin" thepark. There are a LOT of green areas at Osage, and this will fit in quite nicely. We enjoyed Osage a lot when our son was growing up (Mustang, Little League,Birthdays), continue to enjoy it today (walking our dog, picknics) - but it would befantastic to add pickleball to the list of uses as well.
I am hoping the town will proceed with this plan. It will be a great addition to the facilitiesthat Danville offers! Thank you for considering my comments.
Sincerely,
3

>> Hi Gail - I support the much needed pickleball courts at Osage Park. Pickleball is the fastest growing support inAmerica and all ages and abilities can play this awesome sport. The sport is great exercise for all and is very social. We desperately need more courts to support the local demand and growth. I hope the City Council will support thispickleball expansion that will support the community, provide another place for exercise, help build relationshipsand get people of all ages outside.>> Sincerely, Claudia Polidori>> Sent from my iPad

GailThis is the fastest growing sport in the US and brings all ages together to participate. We play with our daughters allthe time but have had to wait in long lines in Walnut Creek because Danville doesn’t have enough courts. Osage isperfect as no houses are directly next to the courts and a lot of land is there and under utilized. I rarely see anyoneplaying tennis which is a declining sport nationally. PLEASE ADD MORE COURTS!!!!!!!
As it stands two courts is way too few to create a community of players. The approach at Walnut Creek with thewhiteboard and people dropping in to play with complete strangers works brilliantly. I couldn’t think of a bettersport or activity to bring a community together.

I am writing in support of more Pickleball courts at Osage Park in Danville. As a
pickleball player myself, I have benefitted from the physical exercise and the positive
social interactions as a result of playing with players across all age groups, like-
minded folks interested in an active, healthy lifestyle.
As you probably are aware, the sport of pickleball has exploded, so the need for more
courts is key. Over the years, our kids played sports at Osage Park and I taught at
Charlotte Wood. To me, Osage Park is the perfect central location to address theneed for expanded courts, and the ideal addition to what is already an active, friendly
park.
With the exposure and proximity to elementary and middle schools, it’d be an greatway to introduce families and younger kids to the sport, too.
Regards.

Administrative Assistant, Gail Massagli,
This email is in reference to the Parks Recreation and Arts Commission meeting on October 12.
I am writing this message because I am requesting the addition of Pickleball courts go forward. When 2 courts were put in, they filled up quickly. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. It gives people of all ages from young kids to senior citizens a chance to play which makes for a healthiercommunity.I know some players don’t go to Osage because it is too crowded which makes for a long wait time between games.More courts are needed.
I understand that neighbors are resisting the addition of more courts.I don’t know in what direction (compass wise) the complaints are coming from. Would the building of a soundwall be an option?
Sycamore Park has some fields where people are playing baseball, soccer, and other sports. I hear the noise comingfrom there, but thatdidn’t stop the construction of fields because of neighbor complaints.Seem like if you live near a park, then some noise is to be expected.

Dear Gail:
My name is Andrea Joseph-Nickels, and I live at Danville, . I
have resided in Danville for 30+ years, at this same address. I understand there is opposition to adding
pickleball courts to Osage Station. Here are my thoughts on the matter.
1. Danville residents often travel to other East Bay locations to play since there are only 2 courtshere. We go to Concord, Lafayette, Walnut Creek and San Ramon to name the most commonlocations. These areas, unlike Danville have more than two courts - Concord has 14. SanRamon, where I play sometimes, is within a gated community that has a process for us if we wantto play there. People do not travel to Danville to play, because their towns already have enoughcourts. It would be nice, as a Danville resident, to be able to play in my town at my public park.2. Adding another recreational activity to Osage Station such as Pickleball is good for the community.I am a retired senior. I have played with folks like myself, their grandkids, working moms anddads, their kids, girlfriends and boyfriends. It's definitely a multi-family sport. Additionally, I havemade new friends, enjoy the health benefits of pickleball, and appreciative that I don't have to paya health club or gym to play pickelball if I don’t want to.3. The restrooms are sufficient – there’s even a water fountain there is we run out of drinks whileplaying. Even when we've had 24 to 30 people on the courts, these amenities haven’t been anissue.4. There's no interference with the beautiful rose gardens. I walk my dog at Osage and we love towalk around them and enjoy their beauty. Adding pickleball courts would not change that.5. Parking has not been an issue even on crowded days. I have been to Osage walking my dog onthe weekends during soccer and/or baseball season and have seen cars parked in the street. Notsure if that has been as issue or not with the homes impacted.6. If Danville doesn't want to have 14 courts, I understand. Six courts would accommodate 24 peoplewhich would probably be enough. Also, I saw that there are "curtains" that can be hung on thefence surrounding the courts to help reduce noise. I don't know the cost or practicality of them(does it block air from getting into the courts which is desperately needed on the hot summerdays?).7. I am so thankful for my pickleball community. I guess I can continue to travel to Concord to takelessons and clinics, and perhaps take advantage of the gated communities who allow non-residents to participate in such (Crow Canyon Country Club comes to mind). But as a resident, Iwould like to believe Osage Station is for me too, and all the others who are playing and will learnto play pickleball, since it is the fastest growing sport in the world.
Thank you to the Town Council for your support in this effort. Surrounding towns have been successful
with adding pickleball courts. I'm sure the addition of courts at Osage Station in Danville will be too!
Sincerely, Andrea Joseph-Nickels

Hello Gail thanks for letting me communicate with you. I am part of the Danville dinkers group at Osage park .Pickleball is the fastest growing social sport activity in America. It is for players of all ages and genders. The players have no age or sex just human beings having FUN, not many activities that have 70 year olds and 20year olds competing and socializing at a public park facility.Public parks want usage of there facilities, pickleball at Osage draws players from 8 am to sunset, while the tenniscourts next door are quite often not used. The neighbors who are resisting the new courts are embellishing the negative effect the courts may have.I also play in Walnut Creek, the Walnut Creek club pickleball courts have over 500 members, no problems , nonightmare scenarios, just lots of people using public facilities having a great time.Osage will draw a few players from Walnut Creek, Danville, Livermore, but not enough to cause the exaggeratedproblems the neighbors are proposing. The neighbors chose to move close to a public park when they moved here, the park district will benefit from theusage, increased funding for usage will happen ,and maybe the neighbors and yourself will join the fun, you arewelcome to be come a Danville dinkerPlease support the addition of new courts at Osage, it will be a win, win, for the community and park district.Thank you Sharon and Gary Caires, proud members of the Danville dinkers.

Dear Ms Massagli I just want to voice my opinion regarding adding more PB courts at Osage. My husband and Iwere tennis players when we were younger, but since we no longer are able to play, the sport of PB at Osage hasreally been a God sent. The sense of community we feel there is indescribable. The issue is there are just not enoughcourts. There have been at times up to 30 players waiting to get on the courts. We all are respectful, we play onegame and let the next foursome play. It is a sport for all age groups. I do not understand the opposition to addedmore courts. There is parking, and if you walk where the courts may be added, you will see they are not that close toany of the residents.Osage has the tennis courts. Soccer and baseball fields. It has a wonderful childrens play area. Barbecue area and awalking trail. Osage does have the space to add more PB courts. I really feel it should take into consideration theentire community. This sport is a family friendly activity and I hope you really consider adding the additional courts.Thank you for your time. Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport for a reason. It is fun! It is social! It is an intergenerational activity which is enjoyed by families and friends alike. I’m am aware of dozensof players who live and or work in Danville (as I do) who regularly play. The existing twocourts at Osage are certainly woefully inadequate to meet the needs and demands of theDanville community. Grant Wyborny

To the Town of Danville,
I am in favor of more courts at Osage. Not 12 but FOUR more as there Are parking, noise issues.Would suggest looking into more Pickleball courts at other Danville parks like Sycamore. The need for more courts is growing as the demographics in this area are leaning toward those 40 and above.Pickleball is popular and will remain so as it is affordable, easy to learn and provides social, well, fun.I am a longtime Danville resident and appreciate the City Council’s careful and measured consideration which hashelp to make Danville a desirable place to live. And I thank you and all of you who have served our town for years.Respectfully,Debbie Kosich

To the Danville Town Council,
My name is Carolynne Levers and I am a resident of San Ramon. I have been a FitnessInstructor for 20 years and my focus is on the 50+ age group.
I have played Pickleball at Osage Park a handful of times with either friends or people thathave attended my fitness classes. There is always a large group of folks waiting to play, and Iam so impressed with the amount of “active aging” participants EAGER to play.
One of the MOST important things for people of all ages is exercise & socialization. Pickleball covers both of these standards for healthy living and longevity.
Not only is Pickleball popular among the 50+ community, but it’s taught at our SRVUSD highschools. It is likely to become as popular as Tennis Team & Golf Club.
Isn’t this what Danville would want for the people of it’s Community? Happy, healthy, activepeople from many different backgrounds, exercising, socializing together.
Please consider moving forward with increasing the amount of courts to meet the need of somany.

To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to express my support of the proposed expansion of the Osage Pickleball courts in Danville. Thereare very few open play courts around this area and the current 2 courts have been a lifesaver but it’s not enough. The sport continues to attract people of all ages, ethnicity, and backgrounds to play because it’s easy to learn, a lotof fun, and social. The friends and relationships I have made through pickleball is priceless. I know the communitywill grow that much closer with the addition of more courts.
I understand that there are some people who are against the expansion. Change can be difficult and there willalways be pros and cons of any project. I hope you will give more weight to the joy and laughter this sport brings tothe many people who play it and to future generations.

To the Danville Town Council,
I was informed that the city of Danville is reconsidering building the additional 12 Pickleball Courts at Osage Park!
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. for a reason. It is social, anyone can play (all ages and all levels),and it’s great exercise! I have met so many wonderful, friendly people at the 2 current Osage courts.
Please, please, please build more PB courts, at Osage Park. Maybe scale it down to 8 courts instead of 12 courts? There are often 20 or more people waiting to play when the 2 courts are full so there is definitely a need for morecourts.

To Members of the Danville Town Council
Tonight it has come to my attention that the city of Danville is rethinking the building of adding
additional Pickleball Courts at Osage Park.
As you all are aware that the sport of Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. The numbers
of new players over the past years has grown at a much faster rate than anyone could have ever
dreamed of. This sport is played by all ages up to the 80 years old, not to mention the increased
interest for young teenagers through 30 year old’s
The Pickleball community is extremely friendly, which is why one can travel to any state and some
countries to play. There are so many resources to meet new players through meetups and google
search.
Please consider a plan to build a number of pickleball courts which the neighbors would consider to
except and approve. This is a great opportunity for Danville to give back to the community.
Regards,
Jan Gabe

Hello there Ms Massagli,I am writing to voice my support for adding additional pickleball courts to Osage StationPark. The number of players grows larger every day and the need for more courts becomesmore imperative. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America and is played by people ofall ages, all races, gender, political affiliation, and any other role that divides us. Pickleballunites everyone. It is a sport that parents can play with their children, that seniors can playwith teenagers, that people with differing athletic ability can enjoy together. It has a lowbarrier to entry. It's easy to learn and gear is far less expensive than tennis. The space of onetennis court, which accommodates four people, can be used for FOUR pickleball courts, akaSIXTEEN people. The physical, mental and social benefits of the sport can not be overstated. I support enhancing the park amenities to include pickleball.

Dear Ms. MassagliI'd like to speak to the advantage of having PIckleball Courts in Danville. I personally playPickleball at the Rudgear Courts in Walnut Creek.
There was a tremendous advantage to families shut in with the Covid pandemic of 2020. Manychildren were stuck at home with no availability to their Physical Education classesprovided at their Middle and/or High School campuses. Many families, because of the CDCrules, only families that reside in the same household could participate in sports suchas Pickeball and/or Tennis. This was observed at the Rudgear Courts in Walnut Creek duringthe shutdown. Let us all pray the world does not have to experience this again.
How do I know this? I am a retired employee of the San Ramon Valley Unified SchoolDistrict and did substitute teaching during that time period. It was heartbreaking to observestudent's frustration sitting in front of a computer all day long. At the present time, I have donated slightly cracked and/or used pickleball balls to thecampuses of Stone Valley, Los Cerros, Monte Vista and San Ramon H.S. These schools havePickleball in their P.E. rotations.
The hope is that the City of Danville embraces the sport of Pickleball for the future of all agesto enjoy. Thank you for your time and consideration.Cece Kohl, Member of the Walnut Creek Pickleball Club

Hi -
I just wanted to express my appreciation for your forward thinking approach to creating the first two courts inDanville last year and for your proposed pickleball court expansion at Osage park. As a player of four years I am soexcited there will be more courts in the area.
Having played this sport regularly for the past 4 years, I can attest to the need for additional courts. It’s truly a greatway to get exercise, connect with community members and neighbors and create new and lasting friendships. I amfully in support of your planned pickleball court expansion.
Thank you.

Hi, My name is Mary Chabolla and I recently heard that Osage might (HOPEFULLY) beadding several more pickleball courts! I can't tell you how exciting that would be!!! As youprobably know, PB is growing at an extremely fast rate and especially among the 50+ group -of which there are MANY!! I play at Osage on a weekly basis and love it! There is often abackup to get onto a court which is okay but would be AMAZING if more courts were added. If there is anything that I could do to encourage others how great this would be let me know!
Best,Mary Chabolla

I’m writing to support the addition of pickleball courts at Osage Park. The rising popularity of pickleball amongDanville residents of all ages and athletic abilities is a great thing! People are spending more time outside withfamily and friends, exercising and socializing — exactly the kind of activity public parks are designed to support. Ihope we can move forward with plans to improve our park by adding facilities that will improve the lives of ourresidents.
I know some neighbors have said they don’t want to hear noise coming from the park as a result of added courts. While I understand this possible concern to some degree, these are also people who purchased homes directlyadjacent to public land, which comes with inherently obvious pros and cons. If they hear any noise it will be becausethey live within steps of the most beautiful park in Danville, if not the entire East Bay — hardly something tocomplain about.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best Regards,Lindsay Moore

Thank you so much for bringing more courts to Osage. It’s impossible to find courts in the area and the wonderfulpickle ball players at Osage are so welcoming and have been so kind to me as a beginner. This community of pickleball players is just what this area needs. The last 4 years we have never been so divided as a community and I canhonestly say that everyone on the courts put politics aside and it’s all good clean mature fun. Please come join usand see what a great idea these courts are!!

Dear Ms. Gail,
Please convey my support for the proposed plan to increase the number of pickleball courts atOsage Park.
Pickleball is a growing sport that is making a positive impact on our community. It bringspeople together in a supportive environment that encourages all ages to play together.
Through pickleball I have encountered wonderful and kind people that I would not haveotherwise had the opportunity to meet. Pickleball is the sport that made it possible to stay saneduring the Covid lockdown. The ease of learning the sport and the challenge of playingmotivated me to change my sedentary habits and become active.
Pickleball is gaining a worldwide popularity for all age groups and skill levels. We have afantastic opportunity to provide our youths and adult players more courts to play and practice. Who knows, we may be the town that produces world class players like our Little Leagueteam.
For any proposal there will be issues, but I believe if we focus on a positive outcome, we willall benefit.

Hello,
I am an avid pickleball player who began playing at Osage park in June 2021, just after they opened. I
also live in the Osage neighborhood on Merrilee Place. I agree with local residents that the park already
hosts enough sports events - baseball, soccer, rugby etc. with overflowing parking on tournament
weekends. Adding a large number of pickleball courts here would add to that congestion. I think that
Osage park could have 4 or maybe 6 courts, but not 10 to 14. Anything more than 6 would invite players
from around the bay area.
I drove to the various parks in Danville and noticed that Osage is the only park that is completely
surrounded by residential neighborhoods. In fact, I think that the ideal place for new courts would be in
Hap Magee park which hosts no other sports. It backs up onto the freeway, with the dog park to one side
and the creek on the other. The courts would be ideally situated next to the parking lot, taking a long strip
of land from the flat grassy area. The noise from the freeway would even help mitigate the noise from the
pickleball courts. I understand that there is some preexisting understanding with Hap Magee park
regarding sports. Nonetheless, I think it is the ideal spot. This is the moment for thinking outside the box.
Please consider it.
In closing, let me sum up by saying that I think 4 courts at Osage and another 6 at Hap Magee would be
the ideal solution.
Thank you,
Joanne McAndrews

Hello,
I would like to express my support of additional pickleball courts at Osage.
You couldn’t find a more friendly, social and respectful group of people to utilize your park.In addition to serving the park’s mission of providing recreational use of its facilities to a wide range of communitymembers, it serves to keep many of its members in the 45 to 70 year age group active, social and healthy. Whatbetter purpose can there be for the park?
The sport has grown in popularity and will for the foreseeable future. Would the park decide not to add more tenniscourts it the sport was gaining popularity. I don’t think so. Why should pickleball be any different.
The attendance by a demographic with ample financial resources will help reinvigorate local business as well. Awin-win for the city.
Please consider this in your decision and weigh the interests of the many over a small vocal group of people whowouldn’t want any changes, a group that will not be negatively affected by the additional facilities.
Thanks

Dear Gail,
We are so happy with the 2 courts in Danville and excited that there may be more.
Pickleball has been all around one of the most life changing things for me. It’s both a sportthat allows me to get out to exercise and be physically stronger but more importantly, it is aninclusive social sport that has helped me find and build a community…which was so lackingduring the pandemic and so needed for the mental health of so many I know.
I’m a mom of two young kids that became sedentary and burnt out during Covid. I believepickleball being such an accessible sport that allows people to meet and connect with strangersby nature of how the sport is played and structured that it has changed and improved myquality of life in so many ways.
I believe this to be true of so many others as well. I am in fully support of the expansion ofpickleball courts and hope the community can rally around it as well.
Thank you,MJ--
Thanks,
MJ

Dear Gail Massage,
I understand that Danville is taking the expansion of the Pickleball Courts at Osage Park under consideration. As aresident of Danville and Pickleball player, I am in full support of the expansion. Osage is a wonderful park, butunfortunately with only two courts, I often find my time to be limited there and have recently had to start exploringoptions outside of Danville.
I also support looking at options to minimize any concerns of neighboring residents. I hope we can find ways as acommunity to keep Osage Park a lovely place for all to enjoy.

Dear Gail -
I am a resident of Danville and I am writing to petition that the Parks Recreation and
Arts Commission consider adding more pickleball courts at Osage Park. Pickleball is
the fasted growing sport in the nation. It is an outdoor sport that is healthy, fun, andplaying improves the well being of the community. Many residents young and old
cannot afford memberships at local country clubs for access to courts. It is imperative
that members of the community have courts to come together and play. There are
many families in the community that play pickleball with their children. There aremany seniors in our community who's only social activity is pickleball. It is unfair that
some residents are trying to limit the number of courts in Danville because they don't
like the noise, joy, and laughter that comes with those who gather to play pickleball.
Two courts at Osage Park is insufficient to meet the growing demand, we need morecourts. It is unfair that residents of Danville must be a member of an expensive
country club to play Pickleball or that others must drive as far as Rudgear or Willow
Pass Road in Walnut Creek and Concord for courts. More courts is an investment in
community resources that are in high demand and pickleball crosses all age groupsand is an excellent activity for social interaction and exercise.
Please include my petition in the 10/12/22 Danville City Council Meeting. The people of Danville want
more pickleball courts!
Thank you in advance.

As a resident of Danville for the past 26 years I am fully in favor of adding many morePickleball courts. The sport has really taken off and is a great outlet for many people that livehere. There is definitely not enough courts to meet the needs of all the Pickleball players thatlive here. Hi Gail,As a weekly regular pickleballplayer at Osage, I would highly recommend the expansion at Osage. There is a wonderful community of playersthere daily that spans all ages. New friends are made, outings created, and great camaraderie among friendlycompetition. All ages are getting exercise and a welcoming social environment -The one negative is the wait to play games is just way too long.Way too few courts for the number of players and the interest in this sport that is exploding. The additional courtswould be such a benefit to the park and community. This is a very respectful group and appreciates the public courts. Please give strong consideration to making thegrowth happen at Osage.Regards, Dave Gotz

Re: Osage pickleball court expansion
I am writing to let you know there is a definite need for additional pickleball courts at Osage Park (and elsewhere InDanville). It is a perfect sport for all different age groups and abilities including tennis lovers who can no longerplay tennis.
The rewards are many - physical, mental, social, and community spirit. Many people walk and ride to the Osagecourts. So it’s not just drivers and many of us carpool too.
I played at Cedar Rose Park in Berkeley recently and they have installed wind screens that are thicker and blocknoise. It works very well there as there are many houses in close proximity - more so than in the Osage area.
I hope you will pass the measure to increase the number of courts.

Dear Gail,
I am pleased to hear that you are considering adding more Pickleball courts at Osage! The interest level in the areahas exploded recently and there are often long waits at Osage to get playing time. If there are concerns about thenoise, we recently played at a 4 court complex surrounded by houses where they had sound deadening screens onthe fences instead of just the typical wind screens. It was quiet outside the courts. Including those around newPickleball courts would result in a win-win for the community.

Gail,Please know that I am still in favor of additional pickleball courts at Osage. I appreciate my neighbors concerns butthe demand and need for more courts for our town has been recognized and approved by the town. The residentswho will use and will benefit from the addition of these courts has been acknowledged. Perhaps the new postedhours and fewer courts would appease the concerns of the neighborhood. As a long time Danville resident, I’m so glad you are considering adding more pickleballcourts (the fastest growing sport in Amaerica).
I know there is some opposition from neighbors concerned about additional noise and use butplease keep in mind the typical pickleball player is a bit older and unlikely to be loud, obnoxious or disturbing to the community. They are more likely to argue about the bestCabernet vintage than the outcome of the game. This is the reality. Unlike if the park were toopen a new skate park or additional basketball courts.
pickleball players are generally kind and good to the neighborhood.
Thats it.

Hello
I am writing this email to favor adding pickleball courts for several reasons.
There are currently only two and there are always several people waiting to play with new people wanting to learn.
The local Danville generation in the 50 to 60 to 70 rangeit's hard on the body to still play tennis, or soccer or softball.
The younger generation, early teens its difficulty to learn how tomaster tennis however pickleball is much easier to learn and is less frustrating.
As a 52 year old ex-tennis player I actually grew on playing tennishere in Danville at Osage and many of the country clubs whenyou did not need to be a member and just go as a guest to take lessons/clinics.
Now in order to learn tennis, all country clubs require you to join as a memberwith expensive initiations, expensive monthly dues.
Pickleball is easy to learn, fun, social and having more courts, would encourage more families to go out and play with their kids.
Even colleges now and young tennis pros are converting to pickleball pros.
Osage is centrally located, easy for kids, families to walk to the park, ride on the iron horse trail and there is plenty of parking on bothsides of the Osage.
San Ramon is getting 4 courts, Dublin is adding some, Pleasanton is adding more.Walnut Creek has Rudgear Park with 8 dedicated pickleball courts soDanville needs at least 6 more courts, total of 8 would be great so 10 or 12would also be amazing but maybe as a compromiseto make the residents that are anti-pickleball, we start with 6 more courts.
There are also could be hours, after 8am and since there are no lights, pickle would end about 8pmsh at the latest nad other items of the yearit would end due to sunlight between 5pm to 6pm, sometimes 7pm.
The town could also start youth pickleball camps, lessons, clinics, etc
73
and would encourage more kids to get out of house. Adults could playwith the youth as well, youth can play with youth and adults can play with seniors.
Thank you for taking the time to read my email.
As a side note besides Osage, the park n ride does not seem to be utilized
and seems like there are plenty of room spaces that are open, what if therewere courts put at the end of the park and ride. it's paved, just needs a fences
and striped, there is parking, close to iron horse trail

Hello,
My husband and I are writing you in support of the expansion of pickleball courts at Osage park. Pickleball hasbecome a popular and fast growing sport and we need more public courts in our area to meet the demand.
We are both retired and we play pickleball to keep us active. For this reason, strongly support the expansion of the10 pickleball courts at Osage Station park.
Pickleball is perfect for us, however there are not enough public pickleball courts to meet the popularity of the sportin the Danville/San Ramon area.
Pickleball is an easy game to learn It is played by people of all ages young and old and can be easily played withyour entire family. We have met a lot of new friends playing pickleball. It is a fun and social game, full of laughterand camaraderie.
We strongly support more dedicated pickleball courts in the Danville/San Ramon to meet this fast growing sport.Having more access to public pickleball courts will provide more physical activity and health benefits for residentsof all ages in our community.

I was so excited to hear about the proposal to add Pickleball courts to Osage Park as

sport!
Kudos to Danville for proposing to provide more courts to this ever growing fun way to

Please consider moving forward with increasing the amount of courts to meet the
need of so many.

I do love pickleball and would love to see more courts. Parking would be tight at Osage so I hope the city can build
more courts and more parking.
I do understand that it is noisy for neighbors so maybe there is a new spot in Danville where courts could be built
away from homes or maybe a sound wall could be constructed. I would like to see more options since it is a sport
the whole family can play. My son learned at San Ramon Valley high and now we play together.

Administrative Assistant Gail,
I now live in Alamo ( down sizing) next to Danville. I depended on the activities provided By the City of Danville. I was living in the Sycamore Valley Community, Danville. My son attended Monte Vista High School and our family Loves the Activities provided by the City of Danville and it keeps Us a life. The summer music in the Park, tennis lessons at Osage Station Park or Diablo Vista Park.
Now that I am older, I am playing a less strenuous activities Pickleball. Pickleball is less taxing and Strenuous than tennis. It provides a physical Therapy for my surgical knee and my shoulder. I am addicted to Pickleball and Pickleball prevents me from taking unnecessary medication. My ALC for Diabetic went down from 6.3 to 6.1. My blood pressure improved From 149 to 135. I depend a lot on the Osage Station Park Pickleball Courts to allow us (aging population) or me to play pickleball and to Keep us moving and healthy.
We hope, the City of Danville will use my examples in providing and expanding the Pickleball courts at Osage Station Park. The more Courts the merrier.

Re: Written Comment in support of expanding the pickleball facilities at Osage
Station Park
My name is Ron Fong. I have lived in Danville since 1986. I am 72 years old and
enjoy playing pickleball at Osage Station Park which is just a 4 minute walk from my
home (or a 2 min bike ride).
I play pickleball 3-4 times a week and it’s one of my favorite activities for outdoor
exercise and social interaction. I’ve become close friends with many who I’ve met while playing pickleball at Osage.
As you know the popularity of pickleball is rapidly growing and is drawing participation
from all age groups. Unfortunately the popularity for pickleball has exceeded thelimited facilities at Osage (two pickleball courts). On most weekday mornings it’s not
uncommon to see 25-30 people who show up to play pickleball. Waiting to play can
get frustrating, often waiting 30 minutes to play a 15 minute game. It’s unfortunate to
see a local resident get frustrated waiting to play at Osage and leave for anotherfacility. For those not fortunate enough to belong to a private tennis/pickleball club,
the next nearest public pickleball courts are in Walnut Creek, Livermore and Concord.
Osage Station Park has the space to accommodate more pickleball courts and if
designed properly could be built to have minimal impact to nearby home owners while
preserving the family friendly nature of the park for young and old. I am hoping that
the city will find common ground with those opposing more pickleball courts andproceed with plans to expand the pickleball facility at Osage Station Park
Thanks you for taking the time to read my submitted comments in support of
expanding pickleball at Osage Station Park.

To whom it may concern,
I’m writing to express my gratitude towards the Town of Danville for considering to build more pickleball courts atOsage Park. I’ve heard there is quite an opposition to building more courts and want to share that there is also agroup of supporters.
My name is Megan Portoni. I’m 52 years old and have 4 grown children. We have loved Osage Park our entire life.My kids have all played in the playground and had many baseball games here. My 24 year old daughter has Downsyndrome and we use Osage park for exercise using the trail. Personally, I’ve been playing at a Osage since March2022 and I can’t explain how much my life has changed for the better. The group that plays in the mornings couldn’tbe nicer or more respectful. They welcome every single new player with open arms. They not only taught me thegame with patience and kindness but now they have become my social group. I look forward to seeing them eachweek. We have all gotten to know each other while waiting for our turn to play on the 2 courts. The wait can beanywhere from 10-20 minutes for each game. I welcome anyone on the committee to come down and learn the gamewith us. You will see the need for more courts. There are worse things that could be added to Osage park that woulddraw in a unruly crowd of unsavory people. This isn’t the case. A few more courts added won’t change anythingabout Osage. We all love the park. We are a group of middle aged adults that need a place to exercise, socialize andhave fun! Please consider building a few more courts. We would love it! Thank you!!
Sincerely,Megan Portoni

In a survey regarding more tennis courts or pickle ball courts, I unfortunately selected tennis courts. I’ve beenplaying tennis on weekends at Osage park for about 7 years now. However I’ve just started playing pickle ball onemonth ago and is now addicted. I’m switching from tennis to pickle ball, not only because it’s fun but also as I ageit’s better for my joints. The game is shorter, the court size smaller, most importantly it’s more social. My tennisgames I need to pre-arrange another 3 players for doubles (I stopped playing singles 20 years ago); whereas withpickle ball I can simply drop-in and play. I am but one of the millions of people switching from tennis to pickleball, the fastest growing sport in USA. Its a sport easily picked up by all ages and all levels of experience. We needmore pickle ball courts now at Osage park, but also in the future as more and more tennis players switch overcompletely or partially to playing pickle ball.

Anyone can play due to the ease of learning andinexpensive cost for equipment. It’s a sport for everyone. Please move forward with the project to expand theamount of courts.
Thanks.Brad W.

Good morning,I’m writing this note to provide my support for building more pickleball courts at Osage Park. Ithink it’s great to be able to build new ones as opposed to converting tennis courts. Yes, I playboth
Pickleball allows many more folks to be active and outdoors. The players I have met arecourteous and respectful, all wanting to get some exercise while having fun doing it.

I agree with my husband’s positive sentiments below concerning adding more pickleballcourts at Osage Park. Additional pickleball courts, separate from the tennis courts, would begreat for the Town of Danville at large. Pickleball is a low cost activity that keeps young andold active and social. I have had nothing but positive experiences with the Pickleballcommunity. Lori Guariento

Pickleball in Danville?
I was born and raised in the Bay Area and have enjoyed living in Danville for the last 15years. I appreciate the safety, quality schools, and friendly neighborhoods Danville has tooffer. But as my wife (and all three kids) started playing pickleball we found Danville to belacking in sufficient Pickleball facilities, whether indoor or outdoor. We end up taking thelong drive to Livermore, or occasionally Walnut Creek to play with locals in those cities. Andthose cities are considering building more due to the high demand. The private courts atCanyon Lakes and Blackhawk are behind gates and limited and difficult to get into regularly. Even Pleasanton after doing extensive research is building additional courts.
It is time for Danville to step up and meet the needs of its citizens. Arguments of noise andparking need to be applied evenly to soccer, tennis, and other sports before limiting newPickleball courts.
Danville needs more Pickleball courts, and I hope I stay here long enough to see that happen.

Dear Members of the Town of Danville Parks Recreation and Arts Commission,
I'm writing to support adding more Pickleball courts at Osage.
Danville has had a long history of continuously improving experiences for its
residences. To date there are only two pickleball courts available. Wait times forplay is up to an hour for each game and there are often 20+ people at the courts at atime. Osage is designed as a multi-use space and, with pickleball as the fastest
growing sport in America, it would be in keeping with the town's history and
purpose to expand the current capability to accommodate a growing desire for allage players to have an opportunity to play.
I have lived in Danville for 31 years, and look forward to retiring here. The idea that
I have access to plentiful pickleball courts makes me that much more appreciativeof this wonderful place. MORE pickleball courts at Osage will be a huge plus forDanville and its residents.

Hello Gail,
I hear you have a Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission & Arts Advisory Board - SpecialJoint Meeting tonight.
I wanted to share my excitement about the proposed pickleball courts being added to OsagePark. These future courts mean a lot to me and my family. For me, this means making newfriends and staying active. This sport has prevented depression, made new friends, andallowed me to connect with old friends and homebody family members.
The current problem now is finding pickleball courts so we use tennis courts with tape orchalk like others also do. This is not a sustainable solution.
As you know the city of Danville's vision is "Small town atmosphere, outstanding quality oflife" and the mission is "to deliver superior municipal services that make people's lives better."Pickleball makes people's lives better.
The goals outlined on the website are a direct match to what the pickleball community willprovide the city of Danville: (yes, I added pickleball to the beginning of your city goals)
Pickleball celebrates diversity, dignity and equality for all members of our community Pickleball celebrates community through family oriented special events Pickleball community engages and communicates with residents and businesseseffectively The Pickleball community keeps residents, businesses and property safe Pickleball promotes and support economic vitality and growth The pickleball community protects our environment, preserve our history and retainthe Town's special character Pickleballers will provide opportunities that support residents' growth and enrichment The pickleball community will provide well‐maintained public facilities Pickleballers will represent and promote Danville's best interests
It will be the smartest thing to have the pickleball community a part of Danville.
The diverse and inclusive pickleball community is respectful and will help keep the park andcourts clean. The community is a happy, friendly, and fun group of people and it would makesense for Danville to align themselves with this type of energy to promote the businessesaround Osage, the lifestyle of the neighborhood, and generate income for the city.

Hello,
I would like to add my voice in support of the decision to increase the number of pickleballcourts at Osage Station park. I have played many times on the existing two courts. As youhave probably heard already, two is not really enough to facilitate the round-robin drop-instyle of play that is used in pickleball. We usually choose other courts in the area, like WalnutCreek, where we can be sure of court availability for play or practice. This is now our mainsource of exercise. It is a sport that is suitable for all ages and has such a large social aspect. It is fantastic for community and new friendships. I am 52 and regularly play competitivelywith athletes in their 20's and 70's. I can't think of any other activity that brings togetherpeople with such diversity. It is not just for retirees.
I understand that there is some push back from neighbors about the proposed change. I do notknow any of the specific concerns. I have played at most of the local courts across the bayarea and I have been playing for about 5 years. I have observed the new court decisionmaking process in Pleasanton, Hayward and even Santa Cruz. There are excellentimplementations that take into account all stakeholders and some that are just awful.
Usually the objections are the same - Noise, Parking, "not in my backyard" arguments, andunhappy tennis players if tennis courts are converted.
Each of these concerns can be mitigated completely or at least made better.
In the case of Osage, you are not taking away tennis courts, so that should not be a concern.Noise: Houses are probably far enough away that this is likely not a concern but a properimplementation should involve a sound study. Go measure the sound levels at existing courtsat peak times (all courts full). Decide if this is acceptable to the closest houses, school, andother sports activities. Don't build it and then find out if it's too loud; collect data now. Thecourts at Mitchell Park in Palo Alto have installed sound deadening barriers that are excellent. You can barely hear noise, even just outside the courts. This is the only location where I haveseen this. It seems like a small extra expense to fix this potential problem.
Parking: This is the biggest complaint in Walnut Creek (Rudgear). Most players park on thestreet in a neighborhood. There is a parking lot, but it is a longer walk so the streets fill up. Will this be a problem at Osage? There is already the existing lot, so it would be up to theplanners to determine if at peak times with multiple sports taking place, would pickleball fillup the parking lot and cause an overflow into adjacent streets? Again, this can be determinedwith bench-marking. Go to Rudgear Park on any morning and count the players and cars. Dothe same at Livermore Downs and Hayward. This will give you a good idea of parkingdemand.

"Not in my backyard" : If you build it, they will come. New pickleball courts will attractpeople from other cities because there aren't enough courts. We typically drive to WalnutCreek (20 minutes). We play there with people from Benicia, Martinez and even Berkeley. The courts are nice with many friendly players, so it's worth the drive. You should expect thesame at Osage. So I guess the city council should decide if this creates a problem. If this is alocal community park that is meant for the people in Danville to enjoy, then Pickleball willchange this to some degree. In the big picture, if every community eventually gets their owncourts, then this will diminish over time. Pleasanton courts (6) will be done a few weeks fromnow, for example. Hayward opened 6 recently. Livermore has four and expanding. Pickleball is known for being a very welcoming and friendly sport so hopefully Danville hasthat same attitude, welcoming people to play pickleball, rather than seeing them as outsiderstaking over a local park.
What I was trying to get across in this lengthy e-mail is that I believe the benefits greatlyoutweigh the negatives but there are some problems to acknowledge. With adequate planningand expertise, the problems can largely be reduced or eliminated.
Thank you-John Mogyorodi

Dear Gail,I’m writing you in regards to the Pickleball courts. As the community ages, it’s wonderful that Osage has Pickleballcourts. To help the residents around you can install sound baffles on the window screens and extend the parking orperhaps have parking permits but please move forward with the Pickleball courts. It provides us retirees so much joyand pleasure and socialization. Thank you very much Judith Peake.

I'm long time Danville resident and a regular pickleball player at Osage. Nearly every day in the late
afternoon both courts are full while at least one of the tennis courts stays empty (often 2 or all 3). I'm not
saying we need the 12-14 courts that have been proposed (we don't). But we do need a few more.
Rediculous to see 5, 10, and even more than 20 people waiting for a court to open up while the tennis
courts are empty.

Dear Ms. Massagli,I am writing in support of expanding the number of pickleball courts at Osage Park. I've been playing pickleball for a year now and enjoy it very much. It's great exercise andattracts players of all levels and ages. It's great to see people interacting on the courts anddeveloping new friendships. You can see that the sport builds a sense of community.Building new courts would address the shortage of courts in Danville and surrounding areas. Any concerns about the noise level can be resolved with sound -deadening curtains like theones that Berkeley is using. Please approve the expansion of pickleball courts at Osage Park.
