I am a Danville resident writing to contribute a public comment in opposition to the proposed pickleball courts project at Osage Park. I have good friends and family that live near the project site and my concern is that insufficient study has been done on the potential impacts of the project, namely the traffic, and by extension safety, impacts of having such a large facility in a residential neighborhood and in close proximity to several neighborhood schools. If there is as much demand for these courts as the project supporters claim, that would put an immense traffic burden on these neighborhood streets and greatly increase the risks to pedestrian children at play or making their way to and from school. A secondary concern is the noise generated by the game itself. I worry that there is not a sufficient understanding of that impact on the surrounding neighborhood. Pickleball is quite loud and it would seem that concentrating the entire supply of pickleball courts for a town of 35k+ residents in one location is an unfair burden to place on the residents of the neighborhood. Pickleball is a great game, and more courts might be a good addition to Danville, but I believe that the Town can do a better job of finding a more suitable location for them.
