Proposed Pickleball courts Item #4.1 Meeting date 8/10/2022 Dear Gail Massagli, I have lived on the corner of Orange Blossom and Meadowlark Ct for 25 years. I’ve watched children trying to cross Orange Blossom at Rhett Place…dodge and almost be hit by inattentive drivers more times than I’d like to count, and now the city wants to add additional traffic? I am a Pickleball player and I’ve seen what the traffic and noise level is at the Rudgear courts, what was once a nice quiet area is now a thoroughfare for Pickleball players, we are not talking about a few cars, each court holds 4 players, 12 courts would be 48+ additional cars at a constant turnover. Where are these additional 48+ cars going to park? Especially on weekends when the ball games are being played… Where are our seniors who want to enjoy Osage Park going to park when the Pickleball players are taking up the parking spots? Has the city considered the homes that back up to the courts and the noise level that the additional courts will add? Pickleball is a very noisy games, I live quite a ways from the courts and I can hear the ball, it is not quiet like a tennis ball. What about the safety of the children attending Charlotte Wood, do we really need to bring in hundreds of additional people this close to a school? This is a VERY irresponsible decision by the City of Danville, the impact of constant traffic, noise and safety issues is unfair to the residents….the planning commissions job is to protect and enhance the neighborhoods of its own citizens, Pickleball in a neighborhood is not an enhancement.
