Greetings,
I am a 40-year resident of Danville, very active with our HOA where I participate both on the board and with the ARC committee. I'd appreciate your help addressing some residual concerns
I have after reviewing the meeting minutes issues by Parks, Rec & Arts Committee. I do note that a small petition was included with the last set of minutes, but I couldn't find any
mention of the public discussion over concerns.
Please forward this statement to Parks, Rec & Arts and to the Town Council as a brief overview of my concerns:
I am concerned as many nearby homeowners seem to be that moving forward with twelve pickle ball courts at Osage Park isn't warranted. I would think that smaller venues should be fully
considered (as opposed to one large venue), to minimize impact on the community. It seems that a much more reasonable approach at Osage and elsewhere would be to provide pickleball
lines on the tennis courts, as has been done elsewhere. In the case of Osage, this would bring the total to five shared courts. Adding a net between two tennis courts would complete
the project at a total expense of just a few thousand dollars. As the Council may recall, there was a similar surge of interest in tennis during the 70's (fad, craze?) that abated
for about 40 years before returning during the covid crisis. The crisis seems to have also propelled pickle ball into the limelight, for the time being.
This path forward would at least partially address local homeowner concerns over (1) noise, (2) traffic, (3) cost, (4) loss of use by summer programs and the junior soccer league in
the space, (5) attracting out-of-town participants without reciprocity or revenue, (6) acting without fully understanding the community concerns and the lifecycle of pickle ball interest
and (7) other homeowner concerns over the direction of Parks, Rec & Arts Committee.
Thank you in advance for your help. We love Danville and want to keep it one of the best places to live in California!
Regards,
