DANVILLE POLICE JUNE 20221 03
Danville VIPS (Volunteers in Police
Service) formalized a long-standing
program to bring officers, VIPS, and
staff to community events. Residents
can now register a gathering and have a
team of VIPS and Officers respond to
their event.
The events help bridge the gap between
the police and the community,
concreting Sir Robert Peel's seventh
principle - The people are the police and
the police are the people. This means
that everyone in the community is
responsible for keeping the public safe.
Although often requested by parents for
their kid's birthday parties, the events
are not restricted to a specific type of
event. Staff helped celebrate a WW2
veteran's birthday earlier in the year.

ACTIVE THREAT
DANVILLE POLICE JUNE 20221 08
Danville Police provide training beyond the minimum training required by
the California Peace Officer Standards and Training.
The Police Department has committed to continuous training and
improvement for decades in the law enforcement response to active
threats. In August 2022, Danville PD will host the annual. Active Threat
training day designed to train participants in techniques to stop an active
threat, treat those in need of life-saving assistance, and provide superior
command and control over large events. The Police Department works
with nearby local law enforcement agencies and members of the San
Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
Danville Police offer threat response training to staff and volunteers at
schools, faith institutions, and businesses by presenting the Run, Hide,
Fight program. The training teaches staff and volunteers how to be
prepared, be empowered, and be able to survive an attack. Police
Department staff review safety protocols at schools, faith institutions,
and businesses upon their request.
Danville Police continue to stay connected with regional partners for
information sharing and threat assessments with the goal being early
identification and intervention or mitigation of active or potential threats
