COP CARS DANVILLE POLICE JUNE 20221 03 Danville VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) formalized a long-standing program to bring officers, VIPS, and staff to community events. Residents can now register a gathering and have a team of VIPS and Officers respond to their event. The events help bridge the gap between the police and the community, concreting Sir Robert Peel's seventh principle - The people are the police and the police are the people. This means that everyone in the community is responsible for keeping the public safe. Although often requested by parents for their kid's birthday parties, the events are not restricted to a specific type of event. Staff helped celebrate a WW2 veteran's birthday earlier in the year. Officers participated in the Special Olympics Regional Games (pictured middle) at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, offering ribbons to participating athletes. Detectives and Crime Prevention Specialists have offered in-person training to community groups, senior care facilities, and neighborhoods, (pictured bottom) providing crime prevention and public safety tips. UPCOMING OUTREACH EVENTS Danville Police will participate in the National Night Out event on August 2, 2022, where community leaders organize their neighborhoods into block parties to get to know one another and meet members of the Town Council and Police Department. Police staff continues to meet with members of the public two to three times a year at the Coffee with the Cops events. The events are publicized via the Town's website and social media channels. The weekly podcast "10-8 In -Service" continues to air every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. providing crime and traffic updates, public safety tips, and responses to questions live during the show. The Police Department works with the Town's Transportation Division to provide feedback on areas of traffic safety concern EDUCATION Officers participate in traffic safety education opportunities like Every 15 minutes and Start Smart aimed at educating residents on good driving habits. ENFORCEMENT Officers perform directed enforcement for violations known to cause collisions and in the areas where collisions are occurring or poor driving is reported by residents. TRAFFIC DANVILLE POLICE JUNE 20221 07 Traffic teams from Danville, Lafayette, and Orinda Police form the Office of the Sheriff Injury and Major Protocol Accident Call Out Team (I.M.P.A.C.T.). I.M.P.A.C.T. is responsible for the investigation of collisions resulting in life-threatening or fatal. injuries. A collision can be viewed in three parts: Initial investigation, technical analysis, and conclusion. INITIAL • Party and witness interviews • Evidence collection • Scene diagraming • Vehicle identification and description • Roadway Condition ANALYSIS • Velocity • Mechanical inspection of vehicles (cars, bicycles) • Evidence (phones, car computers) • Autopsy / Lab • Reconstruct event and collision CONCLUSION Investigators review all evidence and analysis to determine the cause of the collision. If criminal conduct is a factor, the case is forwarded to the District Attorney for review of prosecution. ACTIVE THREAT DANVILLE POLICE JUNE 20221 08 Danville Police provide training beyond the minimum training required by the California Peace Officer Standards and Training. The Police Department has committed to continuous training and improvement for decades in the law enforcement response to active threats. In August 2022, Danville PD will host the annual. Active Threat training day designed to train participants in techniques to stop an active threat, treat those in need of life-saving assistance, and provide superior command and control over large events. The Police Department works with nearby local law enforcement agencies and members of the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District. Danville Police offer threat response training to staff and volunteers at schools, faith institutions, and businesses by presenting the Run, Hide, Fight program. The training teaches staff and volunteers how to be prepared, be empowered, and be able to survive an attack. Police Department staff review safety protocols at schools, faith institutions, and businesses upon their request. Danville Police continue to stay connected with regional partners for information sharing and threat assessments with the goal being early identification and intervention or mitigation of active or potential threats Safeguarding the Lives, Rights, and Property of the People we Serve
