PROCLAMATION
NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH A WARENESS MONTH
MAY 2022
WHEREAS, mental health is essential to our overall health, and the importance of attending to mental health
has become even more pronounced during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has not only negatively impacted
many people's mental health but has also created barriers to treatment, and
WHEREAS, recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that one in four adults
reported experiencing symptoms of an anxiety or depressive disorder in February 2021 — a significant increase
from the prior year, and youth mental health is also worsening, with 10 percent of America's youth reporting
severe depression; and
WHEREAS, discrimination against those with mental health conditions in our society remains, which can make
it difficult to find and reach out for help, and
WHEREAS, mental health recovery not only benefits individuals with mental health disorders by focusing on
their abilities to live, work, learn and fully participate and contribute to our society, but also enriches the culture
of our community life, and
WHEREAS, each business, school, government agency, healthcare provider, organization and citizen share the
burden of mental illness and have a responsibility to promote mental wellness and support prevention efforts;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby proclaim the month of May 2022 as Mental Health
Awareness Month in the Town of Danville.
