PROCLAMATION
ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH
APRIL 2022
WHEREAS, alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States; and
WHEREAS, young people who start drinking before the age of 15 are 6.5 times more likely to experience an
alcohol use disorder than those who begin drinking after the age of 21; and
WHEREAS, according to the 2020 National Survey on Drug Use and Health report, about 6.03 million
Americans between the ages of 12 and 20 report current alcohol consumption, this represents 16% of this age
group for whom alcohol consumption is illegal; and
WHEREAS, alcohol is a significant factor in the deaths of people younger than 21 in the United States each year,
z17hich includes deaths from motor vehicle crashes, homicides, alcohol overdoses, falls, burns, drowning and
suicides, and
WHEREAS, kids who have conversations with their parents and learn about the dangers of alcohol and drug use
are 50% less likely to use alcohol and drugs than those who don't have such conversations, and
WHEREAS, according to the most recent data available from the California Healthy Kids Survey, in the San
Ramon Valley Unified School District, 21% of 11th graders report having alcohol in the past 30 days and 12
report binge drinking (5 or more drinks in a rota) in the past thirty days; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Danville Town Council does hereby proclaim April 2022 as Alcohol Awareness Month
and encourages all community members to pledge to take a stand to prevent underage drinking and alcohol abuse.
