HomeMy WebLinkAboutASRDRB20220113 5.3 DESIGN REVIEW BOARD STAFF REPORT 5.3 TO: Design Review Board Members January 13, 2022 SUBJECT: Review and recommend the Planning Commission approve the architectural design and the color and material board for Development Plan request DEV21-0003 to redevelop the property located at 344 Diablo Road allowing the construction of a new 22,847 square foot self-storage building. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project includes a Development Plan request (DEV21-0003) for approval of architectural elevations and material and colors for the development of a new building to be used as a storage facility in the Downtown Business District Area 6; Business and Professional Offices. EVALUATION Architecture • The development criteria for the project are consistent with Downtown Business District Area 6. • This project has a basement and two additional stories. The square footage for all three levels is approximately 22,847 square feet. • The first and second floors each have two rows of storage units, with the upper rows being accessible with a ladder. • Existing parking is being designed to provide adequate parking for the proposed storage facility and the adjacent Danville Post-Acute Rehab facility, which will retain some parking rights on site. • The exterior of the building is proposed to have red clinker brick, panels of grey cement plaster, grey “hardie plank” siding, as well as a black metal awning’s, black cornices, black window frames, and grey aluminum roll up doors. 344 Diablo Road – Development Plan 2 January 13, 2022 • Stainless steel signage panels are proposed with all final sign designs requiring approval through separate sign permits. • Wall mounted up/down lighting will be used to illuminate the exterior of the building. Landscape • The site currently has 40 trees with 7 proposed to be removed. There is additional landscaping and screening provided by the surrounding properties. No additional landscaping is proposed. RECOMMENDATION Recommend the Planning Commission approve the architectural design and the color and material board for Development Plan request DEV21-0003 at 344 Diablo Road allowing the construction of a new 22,847 square foot self-storage building.
