STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE
Fall has arrived and the parks continue to be heavily utilized. The picnic area at Hap Magee Ranch Park
remains popular and is reserved every weekend; with that in mind, the last four tables and benches were
resurfaced, the patio and surrounding area were pressure washed, and the reservation board was painted,
and its window replaced. Also at Hap Magee Ranch Park, seven plants were replaced in the play area,
drinking fountains were cleared and cleaned, and potholes were filled in both dog parks during Tuesday
weekly maintenance. Weekly inspections, cleaning, blowing off and adjusting and/or replacing nets on
the tennis courts at Monte Vista High School, Diablo Vista Park and Osage Station Park was performed.
Additionally, two of the Town-maintained tennis courts were resurfaced and a new net was installed at
Monte Vista High School.
STRENGTHEN SAFETY & SECURITY
Safety tree work continues in the parks, including skirting up five trees in the Hap Magee Ranch Park play
area and removal of a dead tree in the large dog park, as well as removal of fallen limbs at the Cottage and
Magee houses. Decomposed granite repairs were completed in three areas of the pathway, along with post
replacement and fence repairs at the Bounty Garden, re-certification of the park fire hydrant and repairs
to the door jamb at the Magee house.
Pruning of seven willow trees around the pond, emergency removal of two fallen limbs, removal of one
dead tree, replacement of one memorial tree, pruning of 17 pear trees in the All-Wars Memorial area,
and cleaning and preparation of the site were all completed prior to the September 11 event held at Oak
Hill Park. Pruning of 19 trees at Sycamore Valley Park and one limb removal at the library were also
completed. Bi-weekly playground inspections were performed in all parks, and monthly synthetic turf
inspections were completed at Sycamore Valley Park and Diablo Vista Park. Lastly, repairs were made to
picnic tables at Osage Station Park and Diablo Vista Park.

FACILITATE COMMUNITY PROBLEM SOLVING
Boy scouts from local troop 803
offered a four-week “Using Your iPhone” class in partnership with
the Danville Senior Center. Over
40 seniors took part in the session,
learning about everything from text
messages to calendar management.
PROVIDE ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERIENCES
The summer season may have ended, but irrigation checks and repairs continue. Two battery operated
controllers were installed to keep the irrigation going until electrical repairs were completed at Osage
Station Park. In addition, 12 irrigation repairs were completed at Osage Station Park, one mainline
and 10 irrigation repairs at Oak Hill Park, and one mainline repair each at Diablo Vista Park and Greenbrook School.
PROVIDE RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES
Teen Centers returned after a year and a half break on September 7! The
teen centers are once again filled with teens who are enjoying their time
after the school with homework, planned crafts and fun games.
The Danville Youth Council (DYC) has begun again with an engaging group
of 27 middle and high school students. DYC kicked off their year with an
in-person meeting and elections. DYC members had the chance to hear why
their peers would be the perfect fit for president, vice president, secretary and more. At the end of the meeting, members voted each other into their
positions and took a group photo. They are all eagerly thinking about what
they will plan at their Fall retreat later this year.
As Danville students returns to school, Recreation Arts and Community Services returns to providing
afterschool enrichment to young people where
they can explore a wide range of different hobbies
and interests. For children who are interested in
skateboarding or scootering, Skating 101 with Rob’s Skating and Scootering started on September 16
at Diablo Vista Park. This after school enrichment
program encourages youth to get active and
provides a safe and informative setting to teach the
fundamentals of skateboarding.

with their training and advancing their skills.
FOSTER HUMAN DEVELOPMENT
On September 23, the Art Gallery hosted a
Young @ Art Workshop—the first since before
the pandemic!
SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The Scarecrow Stroll is back for the 2nd year
in a row! Businesses are quickly designing and creating their fall friend for the Stroll to take
place between October 1 and October 30th.
Residents and locals will have the chance to
stroll around town with either a pre-filled
map or they will have the opportunity to go on a scavenger hunt to find the answer to the
scarecrow riddle. Town staff even got in on the
fun this year!
The STEM Club held another interesting session in September. The presentation
answered important questions like “Does an
apple a day really keep the doctor away?”and
the importance of Vitamin D, “Does garlic
really ward off vampires?” and the microbial properties of garlic itself. The STEM Club
meets the 4th Tuesday of the month at 2:30pm
via Zoom. Youth Tennis Camps started back
this month. There are participants between
the ages of 7 and 14 coming out after school to play tennis and stay active. The camp meets
3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays.

It was fun to have the kids back in the gallery
again creating artwork together. They took a
tour of the current art exhibit, BELLISSIMO!
And then were led in an art lesson and made
their own Italian landscapes.
PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER
On September 8, the Cultural Arts and Youth
team partnered to host a Fairy Moonlight
Adventure, complete with arts and crafts,
scavenger hunts and a fairy story. The event
was very well attended and appreciated by
all of the little “fairies and pirates”. It was a
