CALL TO ORDER The special meeting of the Danville Arts Advisory Board was called to order by Chair Bowles at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was conducted by teleconference only. 1.1 Roll Call Administrative Assistant Gail Massagli conducted the roll call for attendance: Present: Kim Bowles, Chair Kevin Donovan, Board Member Haley Johnson, Board Member Jane Joyce, Board Member Excused: Amy Schell, Vice Chair and Youth Member Amelia Liptak 1.2 Announcements Administrative Assistant Gail Massagli provided information regarding the format of the meeting and instructions for public comment. 2. PUBLIC COMMENTS Administrative Assistant Gail Massagli opened public comments and invited those who wanted to make a public comment to use the “raise the hand” feature. Marcia Harmon, owner of Cottage Jewel in Danville, complimented Jessica Wallner and her staff for engaging the community with the Shrumen Lumen art exhibit and Fairy Hunt activities. Serving on the Eugene O’Neill Foundation Board of Directors, she is soliciting support from the Arts Advisory Board to partner with them to engage the Town and Eugene O’Neill Foundation communities during their September/October festival. MOTION BY BOARD MEMBER DONOVAN, SECOND BY BOARD MEMBER JOHNSON, TO APPROVE THE MEETING SUMMARY OF THE MAY 12, 2021 ARTS ADVISORY BOARD SPECIAL MEETING. REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS 5.1 Town Updates Recreation Superintendent Jessica Wallner updated the Board on current and future events for the Town of Danville’s Cultural Arts. She was delighted to report the success of the first in person reception in over a year. The Altered & Reimagined reception took place on June 19 at the Village Theatre Art Gallery. She explained to the Board that tickets must be purchased for Village Theatre and Art Gallery events and activities are registration based. Ms. Wallner also mentioned the department is trying to meet everyone’s comfort level with COVID-19 and have placed circles in the grass for events such as Music in the Park for social distancing. She reported outdoor events registrations are full. Ms. Wallner updated the Board regarding the June Budget. 5.2 Board Member Reports and Comments Board Member Donovan attended the in person reception, Altered & Reimagined, on June 19 and was pleased to report it was well presented and was pleased with the turnout of the event. Board Member Johnson was happy her term was renewed for the Board. She reported she noticed Livermore’s large mural which created opportunities for visitors to take pictures and would like to recommend Danville consider a mural as well. Board Member Joyce discussed her support for murals and banners around the Town providing variety with ideas of creating a mural on the side of the Village Theatre for the Town’s residents to watch the progress. Chair Bowles was in contact with Samantha Snow, the previous Youth Member for the Arts Advisory Board, and requested follow up on her receiving her plaque for service. Chair Bowles communicated with the Art Gallery for recruiting teens for the Arts to acquire extra volunteer hours for college applications. She is in support of murals in conjunction with local artists, residents, and the Poet Laureate. Arts Advisory Board Meeting Summary July 14, 2021 Page 4 4 6.
