Arts Advisory Board -Special Meeting
Summary of Actions
May 12, 2021
1. CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting of the Danville Arts Advisory Board was called to order by Chair
Bowles at 4:00 p.m. The meeting was conducted by teleconference only.
1.1 Roll Call
Administrative Assistant Gail Massagli conducted the roll call for attendance:
Present: Kevin Donovan, Board Member
Haley Johnson, Board Member
Jane Joyce, Board Member
Kim Bowles, Chair
Excused: Any Schell, Vice Chair
1.2 Announcements
Administrative Assistant Gail Massagli provided information regarding the format of
the meeting and instructions for public comment.
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Administrative Assistant Gail Massagli opened public comments and invited those
who wanted to make a public comment to use the “raise the hand” feature.
There were public comments:
Brian Keith, San Ramon, a professional bronze sculptor is requesting the Arts
Advisory Board to consider installing a monumental work of art for public display in
Danville. This bronze eagle art display is partly funded of $100,000 and would require
$150,000 as a remaining cost to the Town of Danville. Brian will forward more
information to the board through email regarding material costs, details, and timeline.

4. ACTION ITEMS
4.1 Approval of the January 13, 2021 Arts Advisory Board Meeting Summary.

DONOVAN, TO APPROVE THE MEETING SUMMARY OF THE JANUARY 13, 2021
ARTS ADVISORY BOARD SPECIAL MEETING.

4.2 Review Proposed Permanent Art Exhibit and Provide Staff with Feedback and
Recommendations
Henry Perezalonso, Director of Recreation, Arts and Community Services
addressed the Board Members regarding integrating the proposed permanent
art exhibit of small bronze acorns throughout the Town of Danville serving as a
tribute to the iconic old oak tree to engage the residents and visitors of the Town
of Danville.
There are currently sufficient funds to cover 10 bronze art sculptures at various
locations around the town which will be covered by the Town’s insurance
requiring minimal maintenance. The initial focus for the art exhibit will be to
focus on the downtown area and the Town Green and in the future to grow the
acorn themed art pieces and scatter them across the town to create community
identity and pride along with the creation of relatable events and programs
involving the small pieces of art. Future steps for this project will require the
board member’s feedback and addressing the town council over multiple
sessions. Henry opened the forum to Board for questions, comments, and
feedback.
The board members provided their comments, feedback, and questions.
Henry thanked the Board members for their ideas and suggestions and will share
their feedback with the staff.

5. REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS
5.1 Integrating the Town Green and Arts District into Public Art
Exhibits Discussion
Director of Recreation, Arts and Community Services Henry Perezalanso opened
discussion for ideas and suggestions on how to enhance and integrate the cultural
Arts District for current and future exhibits. The plan is designed to highlight the
downtown areas utilizing the Town Green, front street property, and Village
Theatre. This will include exploring the arts master plan and looking for
recommendations on how to utilize the area for current and future art exhibits and
increase art programing.
Board Members provided suggestions, feedback, and questions.
Henry thanked the Board Members for their ideas and suggestions and will share
their feedback with the staff.
5.2 Town Updates
Director of Recreation, Arts and Community Services Henry Perezalonzo updated
the Board informing the Town Council’s Budget Study Sessions had started on
May 4 and will relate to the Town Green project and proposed funding for the
draft to kick off the activation of the project.
Cultural Arts and Marketing Program Supervisor Jessica Wallner updated the
Board on current and future events for the Art Gallery, Village Theatre, and
Cultural Arts District. She announced The Altered and Reimagined exhibit is
opening June 19, 2021, with an in-person reception highlighting the Shrumen
Lumen art display. She informed the Board the San Ramon Valley Bridge opening
and ribbon cutting will take place May 18, 2021. Jessica wanted the Board to be
aware the Town Council is discussing in-person meetings and will provide
updated information once the Town Council makes further decisions.
5.3 Board Member Reports
Board Member Johnson mentioned her term will be ending in June and expressed
her interest in continuing her participation with the Board. She would like to
address the Christmas spirit for the Town of Danville and recommends more

Christmas lights for downtown and the idea of a Christmas light competition for
the downtown businesses.
Chair Bowles informed the Board she was proud to be selected to participate in
Community Presbyterian Church’s scholarship selection committee for high
school students submitting college applications in art form.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The special meeting of the Danville Arts Advisory Board was adjourned at
5:11 p.m.
